Seems all 6 movies are on MTV this weekend. Anyone happen to be capping? With all the MTV coverage during the Prequels, would be an opportune time to slip in some revisions… The bumper segments (Q&A between actors and fans) I haven’t seen before, would be great to at least get a copy of them. Curious to see the bumpers for the OT, since MTV didn’t exist at that time. none

MTV was two years old when ROTJ came out.

Seems a curious programming choice for them though.

Where were you in '77?

I remember when Mark Hamill hosted The Beatles cartoons on MTV in the mid-'80s. Sadly, I don't have a tape. :(

I remember the MTV documentary "What Star Wars ruled the world."  It has the one shot of Harrison Ford in the carbon freeze scene during the filming of Empire, and that one shot completley denounced the error that Han was wearing his vest in the close up shots.

MTV or MTV 2 or MTV 3? From all I see on my tv MTV should die. Nothing but reality shows PURE GARBAGE. But if they show star wars they may redeem themselves.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

They showed episodes 1 and 2 last night, they're showing 3 and 4 tonight, and their showing 5 and 6 tomorrow night.

Yeah nothing better then watching THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, pan and scan, and in only 3 and a half hours.  Seriously.  A THREE AND A HALF HOUR time slot(!).  If you watched all 6 movies on MTV, you would also have watched approximately 8 to 8 and a half hours of commercials.  No thanks.

For a while seeing Jedi, it looked like it might be the 97 or original version since the colors looked proper. I tuned in during the Luke Vader duel but then saw Anakin didn't have his eyebrows so I didn't want to watch further.

But I swore during the final attack on the death star, right after Lando says "Split up and head back to the surface," there was a shot with the garbage mattes still there. Was that not even fixed in '04?

Sadly... no.  They're certainly less noticeable than on the GOUT, but still there.  (even though they supposedly recomposited these things in '97... or was that just the Hoth battle where they made that claim?)

Which is why I am eternally grateful to people like Adywan who have the knowhow and ambiton to fix these things for them.

That still doesn't explain how the colors didn't look so screwed up. Even the scene of Anakin without his mask (heavily tinted blue in 2004) looked like a more neutral gray.

I also thought a clip for ANH on the RotS dvd didn't look like the Tantive IV walls were as blue. It makes me wonder if LFL realizes they screwed up the colors so bad. Although the wrecked colors would probably fit Mtv very well as the films now have the color tone of a music video. Would Mtv have done a quick brightening to the picture so that it would show up better on tv?

Here are 4 examples of the HDTV vs the MTV broadcast.
(Capture method for the MTV clips is cable box --> Sony miniDV DCR-PC100 --> iMovie)

They look very faded... almost LD bad.  What kind of sources are Lucasfilm handing out for broadcast?

These caps are from a Cablevision provider who might recompress the programs to fit their pipes. They recently removed some channels to implement a new internet plan and people have noticed that some of the expanded basic cable channels seem rather highly compressed. So LFL might give them a better quality feed then what the cable provider dishes out. (the pics are jpg compression level 8 in photoshop) [side note, in the award ceremony pics doesn't it look like Han had an accident...]

Great None, now I'll never watch that scene and not notice it x[.

So, does anyone else have caps since this is reportedly of lower quality than usual?
