Info: Sideshow Darth Vader

My wife gave me the Sideshow Collectibles Darth Vader 1/6 figure for Christmas.  It’s AWSOME!  But, the helmet was just…off.  It wasn’t nearly as bad in person as it is in pictures, but it was still noticable.

I finally got the guts (after buying a spare dome off the internet) to modify it & I’m so happy with the results!

First, a few pics of the original Darth Vader as he appeared in 1977(courtesy starwarshelmets.com):

And now for sideshows’s figure:

I've been tempted many times to buy some of sideshow's products in the past, but I didn't because of the price. I think I just might now, after seeing that amazing Darth Vader.

By the way, nice job on the helmet!

The original helmet is probably based on the RotS helmet, which was made perfectly symmetrically, which kind of ruined some of the charm on a subconscious level.

Am I the only one who reads "Sideshow Darth Vader" and thinks of a new Simpsons character?

Well, now you're not.

Just out of curiosity, does he come with a a pair of unclenched hands?

My old Hasbro talking Vader probably isn't 100% accurate, but it's nice to pop the helmet off once in a while and see Sebastian Shaw under there, eyebrows intact. ;)

Kind of too bad Hasbro threw in the towel on their 12 inch line. They were finally redoing some characters better the second time around. Gumby Chewie lives on in my nightmares though.

No, the figure's helmet is definately based on the OT.  The whole figure is meant to be the ANH version, and does a very good job of it I might add.  It's interesting b/c when pics of the prototype were released, the helmet was perfect.  Then, sometime during production, something changed and what you see is what we got.  The facemask was still spot on, but the helmet was off.  But not unsalvageable, as you see.

And, yes, he comes with two fisted hands, two gripping hands (for the lightsaber), and one open right hand with fingers outstreched.  He also comes with a lit lightsaber and an unlit one that can hang on the belt.

I like a lot of the SideShow collectibles, I even looked at this one, but they are just so expensive, but I did manage to score this baby, actually just got it a few weeks ago.

It warms my heart when they are banned but their work remains.
