Info: Problems with Master Replicas?

Hey, just wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem, and if so, what did you do about it? I bought a Darth Vader saber a couple of years ago, the one that’s signed by David Prowse and James Earl Jones. Well, over time the metal plaques have become tarnished, or “smudged” for lack of a better word. I wrote MR and they said it sounds like the plaques are oxidizing, and recommended I clean them with car wax. They cannot offer replacements obviously but I was hoping there was SOMETHING they could do, this thing wasn’t cheap after all, and I don’t think I should have to spend the rest of my life cleaning these things from time to time. I know last year (I think) they changed the plaques, probably because of this problem. So has anyone else had this happen to them?

I dont have any of the larger sabers but as far as the plaque goes if its oxidizing you can prob find some jewelery cleaning solution to clean that up. honestly ive never heard of car wax being used to clean oxidation (or clean anything for that matter). Its wax, you clean the car and put the wax on as a protective coat. So it may be an idea to put a coat of wax on the plaque after you clean it as it may help keep it from oxidizing. How often depends on the enviornment you keep it in...but car waxes generally hold up for pretty long periods of time (nu-finish says to use it twice a year) so i would imagine that a coat of wax would last fairly long on a display item, especially if there is no contact with it

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into some jewelry cleaning solution. MR have told me twice now to use car wax to clean/shine it. I was surprised too, but that's what they said. By the way, I keep the plaques under the plastic display case that the saber came with. Thanks again.
