Which Reservoir Dogs BD has the best AV quality? The US release has MPEG-2 encoding unfortunately. I know the French has AVC, the German has VC-1, and the Japanese has AVC. Now, I can't get the JPN, but between the French and the German, which is superior? The French is rumored to have some DNR.

Thanks for the above belatedly, dvdmike. ^

Now, new question, which Trainspotting is the best uncut release, aside from the Japanese? I know the US is definitely cut but confused which other ones are not. So I was planning on getting this-- the first Candian release, but then thought twice.

Are the French and the Hong Kong cut? (There's absolutely nothing I can find to tell me what the case is there). Additionally, is the second Canadian release simply a port of the US and thus cut?

Really appreciate your guys' help.

Thanks for the advice, dvdmike, but the UK is region locked and also lacks lossless audio. Also, the Japanese is quite expensive... as seems the case with most JPN imports.

I just can't find info on the releases I mentioned- French, Hong Kong, and Canadian. Those happen to be the most reasonably priced, and, if they're equally good for the main feature (already have the DVD for the spec. features), I'd rather get those.

I happen to be going to France soon, so I also plan on picking other exclusive titles when there such as Army of Darkness, Suspiria, Tenebre, Inferno, Zombie, Terminator 2, the Transporter films, and the Fifth Element...

There is an announcement that Evil Dead 2 will be released September th 12th this year on BluRay in Germany by "BMV-Medien".

A so called 25th anniversary with a so called "extended cut" with a announced running time of 86:52 minutes. (About 2 1/2 minute longer than normal Version)

It is announced as a 3 Disc Set. (I assume 1 BD, with two DVDs, one containing the movie, one the extras)

Extras are stated to be:

  • commentary by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Scott Spiegel & Greg Nicotero
  • Swallowed Souls [98:13 Min.]
The Making Of Evil Dead 2
  • Cabin Fever- A Fly on the Wall [30:22 Min.]
    Behind the Scenes
  • Road to Wadesboro [8:09]
    Set Revisited
  • The Gore The Merrier [31:51 Min.]
  • Trailer [1:29 Min.]
  • Interview with Bruce Campbell (23:43 Mins)

Edit:

I assume they will put SD MAterial Blown up into the Movie, and that there will be no new master. (...answered before someone need to ask this :) )

Is it confirmed that for that release, the extended version is the Blu-Ray and not one of the included DVDs? Nevertheless, I'd be interested to see an extended edit of Evil Dead II if the AV is acceptable.

It is a collaboration between BMV-Medien and StudioCanal.

I found an older news (from 05-25-13) saying that it will be two BDs and one DVD. On BD and DVD a remastered release (the first german release was quite annoying) and on the second BD the extended, wich was only avaible as bootleg, yet, with the scenes added back onto the HD material. So the new scenes is not the same quality, as the rest of the movie.
