EDIT: Not to derail this thread too much but does anyone know if the UK Dawn of the Dead Blu-Ray looks superior to the US one?

This is not derailing, this thread is about different region DVD's and Blu-ray's not in the US, but to answer your question, they are both MPEG-4 AVC encoded, but the UK is not OAR, it is 1.78:1 where the US version is OAR of 1.85:1, the UK has DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio, but the US has LPCM 5.1 audio and original mono, UK does not have the mono, but the UK version has a bunch of goodies on 2 DVD's, I think that is where the UK version beats the US version, but video to video, I like my US version.

Actually I have been doing some investigating into this UK version, the Theatrical release is the Blu-ray, the Argento version is on 1 of the SD DVD's, so I will definitely not be getting this, I already have ALL versions on DVD in the huge Dawn of The Dead Ultimate Edition with boatloads of extras.

Additional the DVDs of the two other Versions are not as good as the US Ultimate Edition DVDs.

Here is a direct comparison between images of the UK and the US BD. Due to some minor "corrections" on the US Version there are some not so correct image correction like in this screen. (Look at the grass between the fingers...)

Here you see that the US Disc of the Extended Cut looks better than the UK Bonus to BluRay Disc. And here you can see the differences in the Euro Cut. You may the the interlacing. :)

Thanks for the links MrBrown, and I figured our Ultimate Edition Dawn of The Dead was the SHIT!, I love this DVD set.

BTW: There is a german only languaged "Ultimate Final Cut" with a PAL running speed with about 156 minutes of Zombie - Dawn of the Dead.

Its a cut together of the US theatrical and the european cut. Its only avaible in german.. and it sucks. :) That version is like a "fan" (*cough*) cut released official to german languaged DVD marked.

Fan cut, I'll pass, most fanedits suck, at least to me.

Maybe you noticed the " in which I set the Fan. :)

Its not really a Fan cut, the merged the old two official Versions together. The didn't changed the order.. just put it together were it would "belong". Scenes missing in the US version were taken from the eurpean version and vice versa.

I think, its a cut from old VHS times, when the movie was new to home theatre marked. And neither the US nor the eurpean version was officially avaible in Germany. (Oh... the movie is still banned... so its still not officially avaible in Germany, although releases with german audio in austria exist.)

The version is released by "Laser Paradies", a not so big lable that supplied german LD, VHS and DVD marked with lots of gory movies, like Zombie, Braindead and so on.

They even brought a "director's cut" version of Army of darkness, where they didn't took the master from a normal Director's Cut version, instead took an old TC and inserted the DC scenes with english audio and german subs into the movie. But instead of the DC Ending with the too much drinked drop.. they used the european ending in the supermarked...

Is any member here able to order from Discshop.se? they have this coming out and I surely wouldn't mind getting a copy, but they do not ship to the US.

Do you know what additional content is on there?

All I know is it is a Sweden release, 2 disc, 2 movie, not sure if it is region free or not, and I am going to guess that there is not a lot of extras on this release, what is special about it is that it is a 2 movie Blu-ray SteelBook Set.

It's a Scandinavian release, so Region 2, should be available from Finnish, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian webshops, probably some can be found that ship overseas, otherwise I could probably assist if it's still wanted.

I would love to have it and swap out the region B Discs for region A's, what is the cheapest price for it?

The German DVD of Crocodile (1981) has superior quality to the R1 one and is in the correct apect ratio:

http://www.amazon.de/Horror-Alligator-Das-letzte-Kapitel/dp/B000R3NNYA

Also the Japanese VHS from that film (rarity) has apparently an entirely different cut of the movie.

Interesting... any screen caps and/or comparisons with the US release?

Also,  are you referring to ALLIGATOR by John Sayles, or is this KILLER ALLIGATOR with Mrs. Ringo Starr?  Also also, anyone else find it funny that the US cover art for KILLER ALLIGATOR has an imposed bikini on the painted Barbara Bach?

Also (x3), is there a difference between MYA's release and the previous release from NO SHAME?

EDIT: okay, this is ANOTHER Crocodile/Alligator movie, listed here on IMDB.  The strange thing is: there is no Region 1 dvd release (or at least there's no release on Amazon.com that I can find).

This may be a little "off track" but does anyone have the Crash (Best Buy Bonus disc)?

There's in introduction by the writer/director

Storyboard Compares:
Westwood Carjacking
Chinatown

Script-to-Screen Compares:
"I just had a gun"
"Helping hand"

Music Montage

Photo Gallery
Nothing really extravagant. Menus, Introduction, Photo Gallery and Music Montage are all 16X9.

One more request: does anyone have the "making of" segment from Total Recall?  It's about 8 minutes long and only available outside of R1.

Thanks!

I will have to look at my French Total Recall SteelBook Blu-ray, it might be on there.

AFAIK the european BDs are all the same, no matter if france, germany or netherlands, and the 8 min Making of seems not to be on one of the discs. The new Versions just seem to contain the 23 min "Models & Skeletons" ...

The 8 Min. Making of seems just to be contained on some DVD Editions, like the FR Ultimate Edition.

I have the german 3 DVD Edition with an Making of with running time about 8 minutes.

According to this, the Zombie Blu-Ray has an English language track. Unfortunately, like some French Blu-Rays, it forces French subtitles when watching in English. If that is the case, is it possible to rip the Blu-Ray video and re-mux it with the English language track but not the French subtitles?

...

I own the french BD with the Argento cut.

Yes, the french subs are forced.

Yes, it is possible, and easy, to rip the Movie with english Audio, and remux it without french subs.

It's easy to get a MKV with Video, Chapters and english Audio, or even a BD structure. The Movie track with english audio is slightly bigger than a single Layer BD.

Does anyone have these discs:

The Devil Wears Prada: 2 disc (Target)

The Pursuit of Happyness (Target) 3 disc

Deja Vu (Wal-Mart) 2 disc

It is stated that the Swensk BD of Hellboy (the first of the two movies) has 7.1 HD MA englisch audio. (While every other country hat 5.1 lpcm englisch audio)

AFAIK the European Argento Cut of Dawn of the Dead still not on BD in USA. So:

The french release with forced french subs on english audio was allready mentioned. Well: Austria also got the Argento Cut. NSM released a 2 Disc BD Box with US Theatrical Cut and Argento Cut. Also there are single Disc Releases with the Argento Cut.

The Boxes are different Hardboxes with some nice artwork.

(I link to the Austrian Shop site, where I found them, because of feature listing)

Double Feature:

Argento Cut:

Cover A / B / C:

Romero Cut:

Cover A / B / C:

The Double Feature is limited to 333 pc. The Single BD Editions are each variant limited to 131 pc.

I expect the image quality to be like the US and the french BDs. But: no forced subtitles. Region Code not sure, yet. Will get my double feature next week, maybe.

According to ofdb.de the Regioncoding is B. :(

The Bonus features are the same as on the US Disc, The Dead will walk is english audio with german voice over.

The englisch audio on the Argento Cut is stated to be 5.1 DTS-HD.

No sub, neither german nor english.

Checked a bit: The French BD is BD 50 and the main movie seems to need about 29 GB on the Disc. The austrian BD is just BD25. So I expect the quality to be lower. :( I will see and try to bring a comparison online. If the Quality is noticable worse than the french, but the audio a bit better (french disc is stated to contain DTS 5.1 english audio, austrian is stated to contain DTS-HD 5.1 english audio) it could be a nice preservation project, bringing french picture, austrian english audio, and someway some english subtitles togerther...

As much as I wouldn't mind having the Argento Cut on Blu, I surely won't be interested if it has crappy video quality or forced subs, or region B, now if there is a nice region A version with good vid quality HD audio, and NO forced subs, now I would be all over that.

I got the AT BD of the Argento Cut this weekend.

The english Sound is the Same as the french Disc. The bitrate from the movie is indeed much lower, than the french release. It has no subs at all. Region coding could not be checked. The master seems both the same, both features have exact same running time.
