Disagree... if there was an official release of the OT, I for one wouldn't even have joined this forum, and I certainly wouldn't be chasing any bootlegs; I never have before now.

I was just thinking it funny that people will bitch about anything that doesn't fit their perceptions of what Lucas should do.

I'll still buy the September set because I want an official DVD set and I'm curious what they'll do to it. Plus, I want to support it...but I'll still have my bootlegs with my kick ass covers I made.

Hello again.. I just received the anamorphic version today and wanted to point out the differences between this set and mine. While the discs are authored more professionally (nice menus and more chapter stops), the audio has been compressed from the 448k PCM to 192k DD 2.0 and there is a definate sound difference: The low end is not nearly as present and the audio fidelity is not as sharp or loud, it seems a bit muffled in comparison. The picture is slightly brighter and more noisy than mine, and appears to be a bit softer as well. It also seems whoever made this set also turned the contrast up somewhat. It is very close in terms of quality to mine but not quite as good. It does have the benefit of possessing the audio commentary, which is nice but not essential. It is also correctly flagged as being an anamorphic display and the black bars are reencoded (not the LD bars), and the subtitles are different because of this. All in all a nice job: RowMan's review basically sums up the rest of the differences not mentioned here. I am now going to offer both versions and allow the buyers to choose which one they want: both will come with the 4th disc which is the same.

I already pre-paid for my Trilogy set !

I really do like what he was doing with the Special Editions - He included the little floating probe bots that are seen in the Droids animated series that predates the original trilogy SO we do know that GL was not talkin' poop when he said that he wanted to add this type of SFX to the original trilogy. I also LOVE the cleaned up picture that theyu were able to produce - SO yes the SE Trilogy getting the THX treatment for both sound and video was just about awesome put it this way I've been able to restore some of my VHS rips real good with digital video tools.

But I just can't get over the Han NOT shooting Greedo first OR that Jabba CG poop - THIS is almost and I do stress almost unforgivable after the effort that was done by Rick Baker and the rest of the SFX team. Jabba was real, Jabba was alien and had a freaky realism to him that the CG version lacks.

Anyway that's my SUPPORT for the Special Edition and also how and why I felt a bit let down by them.

BUT I wonder.

Are there any new changes to come

Gents,

Prepare yourselves to hunt down (or create) the ultimate SE DVD bootlegs as well (as for the OT)because the SE DVDs that are coming out on 09/21 won't be quite the same as the "original" SE movies either. I guess now we'll have OT, OSE and SE versions to sort through. Just take a look at the link here for starters. For all of you who hated the SE movies, wait 'til George messes them up some more!

TR47, here's work for you!

Oh yeah, we're well aware of what's happening. And we're none too happy about it.

First, welcome to the forum petrob. Now I don't think those specific changes for the SE are that bad, not getting the OT is.

I have the TR47 DVD box set (got it about a month ago) and all i can say is that I am very impressed with the product.

I do own the original LaserDisc box set from which these dvds were created and to have a near identical copy on DVD makes a world of difference (since my LD player is pretty crappy along with having to perform 3 disc changes and 5 side changes)

Anyway, i first played the movie on my xbox onto my 36" DirectView HDTV I'm not sure how much better the picture would have been with a true progressive output signal (XBOX outputs 480i not 480p for dvds) but the quality was VERY VERY watchable.

The next test-- playing this movie on my 100" diag. projection system. This has been the problem with past bootleg dvd attempts. My buddy had some HK import that look absoultely crappy -- on a regular tv-- it could have passed for slightly better than DVD quality. I was happy with the picture-- the audio for whatever reason needed to be turned up higher than my other movies (most movies stay at level 44-46.. these DVDs needed to be at around 53-54) SLIGHT hiss, but nothing that takes away from the experience and enjoyment of the movies.

The ultimate test-- inviting my nerd friends over for a SW marathon and asking for their brutally honest opinions-- NOT ONE COMPLAINT!! Do not hesitate to get these DVDs-- its the best thing out there for the money-- I also plan on buying the Original Trilogy DVD set once its officially released (no the SEs)

Just my $.02

Anyone here sells those? (*Outside* yakyakyak )

By the way, as far as Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in TESB goes, I'd *love* that change, but I'm afraid it's simply just fan wish, as is that very unconvincing image from TDB.

To anyone in the US or Canada,

I'm interested in getting both the TR47 set and the one with the commentaries. Anybody would be interested in selling me copies of each on good quality DVD-R media? I live in Canada. TR47 doesn't ship outside the US. How much is his set, anyway? He didn't tell me! Anyone?

Thank you.

Oh... and I forgot,

Anybody got a good DVD copy (anamorphic WS, of course) of the original SE trilogy (apart from the chinese bootlegs)? IMO, they're going to be as important to collectors/fans as the OT is since the official new SE trilogy release will be as different from OSE than OSE was compared to OT. So, as a fan and movie collector, I'd like to own a good copy of the OSE trilogy on DVD before GL reshapes it to something different.

Luke,

I live in Montreal, Quebec. From experience, it doesn't cost a lot more to ship something here via USPS Air Mail for example. Thanks for offering.

I purchased the 4 disc set from TR47. So far, I've watched the first one and a few extras on disc 4. It's probably the best set we are going to get of the original saga.

Right now, I suggest being careful selling/buying bootlegs.

This guy just got busted for Song of the South:

Goose Creek man accused of pirating 'Song of South' film

Lowcountry resident could get prison if convicted of violating federal copyright laws

BY NITA BIRMINGHAM
Of The Post and Courier
Even sly Brer Rabbit might have a tough time getting out of the fix a Goose Creek man has found himself in.

Richard Montague Powell, 66, was arraigned Tuesday in federal court in Charleston on charges that he made up to $250,000 by pirating copies of Walt Disney's motion picture "Song of the South."

If convicted of violating federal copyright laws, Powell faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

A search of Powell's residence turned up hundreds of unauthorized copies of the motion picture on DVD and VHS, according to U.S. Attorney Strom Thurmond Jr. Numerous firearms also were seized.

Powell may have netted a small fortune -- as much as $250,000 -- from sales of the movie over a three-year period, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Powell's address wasn't given, and he could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

The case is being investigated by agents of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

"Song of the South," a live-action feature, is not available for purchase through Disney, although numerous Internet sites list it for sale. The film was released in 1946 and was last reissued in 1986.

A Web site dedicated to the film speculates that Disney decided not to reissue "Song of the South" after 1986 because of negative feedback that it is a "racial" film.

The film was released on video and laserdisc in foreign countries, but not in the United States, according to Songofthesouth.net.

It was withdrawn worldwide in December 2001.

In the film, a boy named Johnny learns lessons about life through the stories of Uncle Remus.

In one story, Brer Rabbit was able to outfox the fox and escape being eaten.

But Brer Rabbit wasn't in federal court.

That's interesting, anamorphic. What's the quality look like on a bigger screen (since I thought you said you had one). Just curious.

Sounds to me like that guy just got too greedy. There is a big difference between covering expenses for making a few discs, and making a quarter of a mil. He was askin' for it...
