That’s amazing! I think if you can speed it up just a bit more, you’ll nail it. 😃

Is there any way to “dirty down” the CG model? Maul’s speeder has been running amok for a decade at this point. I’ll presume the probe droids still chasing it in ATOR finally died. 😉

Also, referring to Bob Garcia’s original test, I think if you put in a little hint of a dust cloud on the horizon at 36 seconds, that sells it even more.

Yeah it definitely needs some more speed!
Haven’t tought about adding dirt… great idea, i’ll have to mess around with some textures, but is totally possible!
I haven’t added the probe droids, since the speeder is flying towards camera, i tought adding probe droids would “pollute” too much the image, but, if Frink wants, i can add them!
I’ll add the dust cloud, thanks for the tip!

I like the Death Star explosion, but when it gets gradually brighter in the beginning, I think it should have a more red/yellow hue to it, to suggest it’s heating up. Looks kinda cheesy as it is. Also once it’s completely white, I would cut straight to the explosion, rather than lingering as its gets the outer glow. Just my personal opinion, but I think it would work a lot better.

The Death Star test is actually a pretty interesting proof of concept. Having two rings instead of just one makes the explosion a lot more grand. I agree with Darth Lucas as well. I think the way the Death Star II explodes is kind of like that; it glows a little bit then blows up completely.

Speaking of your 3D model problems, do you think making an actual model could work too? I have access to a green screen so I could film it possibly. I’d have to learn how to make a decent model though. Not sure which would be more work. You also run into the problem of not only making a Death Star model (whether it be real or CG) but also having to make it break into pieces in a way that is similar to the Death Star II, if you want imply they are the same station.

I understand this may be rather difficult to accomplish so I am behind any other ideas we can invest in that might actually benefit the story more.

Yeah i agree with Darth Lucas too, and since you guys shown some interest, i’ll make a better looking version of the 2d explosion 😃

Regarding the 3d explosion, making a real model wouldn’t be very helpfull, at least in my opinion.
You see, i want to do an epic explosion, something that simply wouldn’t be possible with an actual model!
This scene from the movie Oblivion illustrates the kind of explosion i want to do:
(CONTAIN SPOILERS) The explosion starts at 1:34
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHKtN9jPK1w

I want to do an explosion that looks like that, but that still fits into the Star Wars universe!
If you have a different idea on this, please, let me know 😃

Hard to maintain my silence with an awesome thread like this, but I will simply say two things:

  1. This is awesome that you are doing this. I feel this sort of thing has been needed for some time. So many editors have to reinvent the wheel, and there are skilled FX guys like you who can contribute so much to others’ edits.

  2. My request would be simply that you finish the effects in several of the released deleted scenes. For instance, the scene where Luke speeds past the old lady on the way to Tosche Station, Luke training on Dagobah, Jerjerrod watching the Death Star II turn upon Endor on the viewscreen, etc. Such would be invaluable for sure. Even if the scene itself has scratches all over, it’d be neat to see the finished effects. Admittedly, the ANH scene with the old lady interests me for the sake of Ryan McAvoy’s Lost Workprint edit.

I would prioritize ROTJ & PT over ESB & ANH, but yeah.

Since it seems to be in everyone’s interest a remaster of the deleted scenes… can someone send them ALL my way? or at least point me a way to get them in good quality?

As i said, i only downloaded the movies, and finding the deleted scenes in good quality is hard (youtube compression is not good).

Thanks in advance!

That’s funny, because I’ve been working on finishing that scene. I have a very rough cut, but I don’t currently have it rendered as a separate clip and I goofed on my matting and cropping so I have to redo a lot of it. I haven’t posted any requests here because I am trying to do all the work myself, but I also haven’t fully reviewed all the deleted scenes.

That looks great xxtelecine 7xx. Even though you can see the original saber in a few places, it blends together really well and unless you’re one of us who’s examined these scenes practically frame by frame you probably wouldn’t notice.

Here’s something I could do on my own if you’re too busy, but there are a number of shots at the end of ROTJ where you can clearly see Vaders hand is just covered up by the costume and his wrist is even bent in the shot where he’s looking down the shaft after he throws the emperor. It’s something that’s always bugged me and if you could fix it that would be awesome

That’s about as far as I could take it hundsdorfex will try to clean the rest up.

Strange even looking at it on another monitor and my phone it looks too purple, I am going to add some more green to it to get it more saber blue… My monitor’s color must be off…

With the planet Sullust finally now revealed, it would be nice to see the Rebel fleet actually amassed around it, as Vader says.

What fantastic work you are doing. I realize you have a full plate but I have to throw my requests in as I may not get another chance… so here it goes.

I would love to get a shot of Luke force grabbing his Saber from Lando at the sarlacc pit not from R2.

Second since I saw your awsome hologram work I would love a shot of padme watching a “doctored” version of security footage of Mace windu attacking palpatine. Like a propaganda news story.

Keep up the awsome work

Here’s a little test i did on my spare time:

The Speeder on frink’s scene has been speeded up a litle bit more and probe droids has been added:

The first (rough) rotoscoping test of the Luke and Biggs scene:

I’m still working on xxtelecine 7xx idea.

Didn’t had time to cut Dooku’s lightsaber (sorry).

Did some more work on Grievous hologram (EpII), the Death Star has been already removed from all the shots.

Death Star 2d explosion has been changed according to suggestions, still needs some fixes, but it will get done soon.

Death Star 3d explosion has began modeling.

This is a hard thing to do, since Lando doesn’t appear much until the fight starts.

This is totally doable, still not sure exactly how i’ll do this tho…

I’m not aware of all of the scenes he is talking about but recoloring black and white scenes would be extremely time consuming, wouldn’t it? I’m not saying it is impossible because I know there are some reference photos for the pilots at least, I just don’t if it would be worth the time it would take, and if it would look natural.

Ok, thank you. One more thing, could you use xxtelecine 7xx’s version as a basis? I already asked his permission to use it in my edit, so don’t worry about that. If you don’t want to download the whole thing, I could send you the clips.

Since you’re using his version, the clips would work better 😃

Sounds good, when I get the chance I’ll send them to you.

I think this is a great idea. I too have some experience with FX work (though limited). I may in the future also offer my services to help others as well. I personally think that this thread should just be a place to offer services if you have the means and a place to offer suggestions as well.

as far as suggestions go, I would have to agree with darth_ender. finishing off some of the deleted scenes would be a great resource to this community. I personally would work on some of the PT deleted scenes, especially those found in ATOC. It seems to me that many editors here use the deleted scenes from ATOC more often than not and the Obi-Wan and Mace Windu scene, though has most of the CG work done looks a bit off when they are talking on the landing. the background doesnt seem to really fit with the real life actors very well. if there was someway to make it look better, or even redo the Coruscant background all together that would be great.

also is there any way you could send me the “Floating/spinning Grievous” just by itself. I may use it for my own edit. Unless you have added Grievous to the rest of that scene, ie dooku opening up the hologram.
