Info: 'Lost Highway' - on Universal HD Tomorrow Night - a Preservation Opportunity

Hey all. Anyone that gets Universal HD and has the means to record in HD may want to tune into Universal HD tomorrow night (Friday Feb 23rd) at 11pm. They will be playing Lost Highway in HD. The assumption is that they will be using the HD transfer that Lynch approved back in 2001. The film has yet to be released in the US. (on DVD)

True, a very good transfer is available by MK2 via the French Region 2 DVD, but it’s in PAL and not sure if the HD Broadcast verision will be better or worse. Would be nice if someone could grab this one.

I have my HD DVR set to record it but getting it to DVD in HD is a no go. I have no way to get it to DVD.

So did anyone record this who is able to put it to dvd? Or how long will this take to show up on a.b.hdtv if it's going to?

I was able to transfer to DVD but it is not in HD. It is in SD but in good shape.

Is it in anamorphic widescreen and whats the soundtrack on it like?

It is in widescreen but I do not know if can be made anamorphic or how.
Soundtrack is 2 channel. It was on a cable tv channel and I recorded it to my pc from my HD DVR out the S-Vidieo connection. I have no equipment to record digital audio. I have not even seen any sound cards that will allow you to do that.

You should make a DVD out of it and put it up on myspleen or something. Or, just put the video files up and I'll make a DVD and then seed that. PM me.

At the moment, as far as i know, there are no dvr's that will output an anamorphic signal. The only boxes I know that do it are the Pioneer but I dunno if they have a DVR. The regular one does. Obviously you would't get 5.1 on that either...just 2.0.

So right now, you'll just have a better looking (hopefully) non-anamorphic disc.

MY HD DVR will do it, only to a HD Digital VHS recorder, with exceptions. The content can not be "Flagged" as "Record Once Only". My cable company sets that "Flag" on almost all HD content. Sometimes if I am lucky the flag is not set and I am able to record to my PC running "CapDVHS" a D-VHS emulator. The file can be converted to a DVD complient file that will output anamorphic video. I loose the 5.1 Dolby Digital audio though, as my DVD recording software converts it to 2 channel Dolby Digital and PCM during the transcoding. The process takes a lot of work and a long time so I only do it once and a while. The Last one I did was The Frighteners .

Are you able to capture playing back something from your DVR? Which do you have? I'm assuming you're hooked up through firewire.

Yes, but only if the cable company does not set the "Record Once Only" Flag.
It's a Motorola DCT6412 III via Firewire using CapDVHS emulating Panasonic DVHS deck on my pc.
It is hit or miss. There are some TV series that I used to be able to capture in HD right to my PC that I sometimes can't record. There is controversy on this and it is I have not kept up with all of it. I can do all of the SD programming just not all of the HD stuff.
