Info: JAWS...

I can’t believe this film has not come up here yet.
With the amount of re-issues ‘Jaws’ has had, there must be someone out there doing something with this great film.
I know there is cut footage beyond what is on the DVDs.

I know that the film is almost perfect the way it was released, but seeing it with the cut footage back in might be fun.

I've thought of doing this...and it has been brought up. You just have to search.

There are no deleted scenes beyond what has already been put onto DVD. There's also not much one could do with what has been released.

Beyond inserting the deleted scenes, there's nothing to do with the film. It's pretty much perfect as it is.

Well o.k.

Anyway no need to be pedantic. I had done a search, and all I got was something about the making of Jaws.

the 30th anniversary DVD edition has an extra deleted scene, not on the previous DVD, but already on the LD Box set

Huh?

All the scenes that were added back in to the TV version are on the official dvd.

What I would like to see put back in the film (and it's not on the DVD) is the missing autopsy footage that was cut after some prints of the film had been released.

My family went to see Jaws back in 1975 at a "drive in", and my sister and I remember that scene was complete. Universal wanted a softer film for the teen crowd, and wanted the gore of that autopsy cut back. If you look at the scene you can see the obvious edit. It's just after Hooper says, "This is what happens"....

Unfortunately, the only print of this is hiding out with the one print of Star Wars with the Biggs scene back in that everyone has claimed to see.

Never happened.

Is that an opinion or a fact?

I'm asking if you are calling myself, and others that post over at www.jawsmovie.com that claim to have seen that version of Jaws a liar? Or, are you just trying to rattle me for calling you pedantic (which you were)?

Just want to make sure we keep the known facts separate from anything personal for everyone else here. If you have documented proof from anyone on the Jaws production team that such a version never existed or was never shown, please bring it forward. Apon it's presentation, I will admit myself for psychiatric care for hallucinations.

I'm actually on that board.

And please, feel free to present proof that such a print exists. Until you do, it doesn't.

LOL, let's sing....

You say either and I say either, You say neither and I say neither
Either, either Neither, neither, Let's call the whole thing off.

You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto
Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto, Let's call the whole thing off

But oh, if we call the whole thing off Then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas, I'll wear pyjamas and give up
pyajahmas
For we know we need each other so we , Better call the whole off off
Let's call the whole thing off.

That was fun!

You have displayed nothing but negativity on this thread. It's sad that you feel so threatened as to resort to name-calling. As the "newbie", let me be the first of us to extend a basic example of forum etiquette. Let me ask that we please do the rest of the forum readers a favor, and move your non-constructive criticism to personal mail. It's only right that we elevate the level of this thread back up to exploring the movie Jaws. It would be nice to come back to this thread and find some new information on Jaws, deleted scenes, and/or a fan edit of the film.

No, I don't have an old VHS of that version to hold up as proof, but I can provide a legitimate reason for this discussion.
Here is a link to some discussion on another forum about the edit in JAWS I was talking about in a post above.

Jaws autopsy edit

"Jaws" Problem

Oh, and look! "Christopher Smith NT" remembers seeing the same version I did:

I saw this film in the theatre (JAWS) when it first came out. As I recall the
film was rated -R. I can remember only one scene that I've not seen since...

When Richard Drey. is examining the first body, the girl who was eaten, he says
"This is what happens..." This is what is in the PG version. This statement
makes no sense...its open ended.

I recall in the theatre version, that the doctor brings in the tin with the
remains of the girls body. The camera view is then from the ceiling where
Richard removes the covering cloth and you see parts of the breast, leg and
arm. Richard then says "This is what happens in a shark attack" And he picks
up the arm and you saw a bit more.

I have yet to see this since.

All your searching is great. If it does exist, someone SOMEWHERE would have it. And they don't.

I agree that it's a choppy edit. But you have no proof that anything else existed there.

it also has a shitty ADR job.

Again, until you get a videotape (which can be easily found on Ebay) that has what you're looking for, it's the same as the Biggs/Luke scene. People SWEARING they saw it in theaters 30 years ago...but can't prove it. It's the mind playing tricks on you.

"See, I do know how to search."

With all due respect, this was in one of your links: "i spoke w/ someone at my local video store about this and he told me that he had heard (rec.movies.urban.legends)..."

It's little more than one person hearing something from another person. If you've ever played the game "Grapevine" in school, you would know how quickly and easily a simple fact or assumption can be distorted.

Unless this footage can ever be found and seen, it's all academic.

<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

With all due respect back, my point of posting the links (as stated clearly in my last post) was not to prove or disprove the existence of such a print, but only to justify the discussions of such a version. I think I've done that. The quoted comment you provided was only one comment from one of five provided links. There are quite a few first hand accounts of people claiming to have seen the same version I had. And yes, I am sure there are just as many posts around of people who have not seen that print, and are convinced that it does not exist.

Unless this footage can ever be found and seen, it's all academic.

Much like the rest of this forum as of late…I can see this thread spiraling down to the level of name calling rather quickly.

Don’t get me wrong I am all for debates as to whether or not a scene was in a movie or wasn’t. I myself have been privy to more than my fair share on this board in the past. I, however, don't see any good information on either side of this argument.

If at all possible can we as a forum move past the childish reply of “Prove it?”

Well said!

And on that wise sugestion, I would like to provide a link to some lost scenes that can be placed into a fan edit of JAWS.

JAWS: Lost Scenes

I am thinking of doing a reconstruction of:

"Shark Goes After Michael Brody"(Estuary)

After the shark attacks the guy in the Estuary, it goes after Michael Brody, with the Estuary guy still in its jaws. The Estuary guy, barely alive, pushes Michael out of the way, saving Michael's life.

This out-take clip is part of the making of special on the DVD, and has no original sound that can be used in a fan edit. If I use the extended soundtrack CD, I may be able to make this footage blend with the film.

As for some of the other out-takes, the acting is so bad in some ("Cassidy Identifies Chrissie's Remains") that it needs to be left out of every edit. *grin*

Good luck with that edit. After I do many of the other releases...including several "making of" specials on Jaws, I might get around to doing a different version of it.

again...if you want to discuss a re-edit, that's fine. But there is no extra material to the scene you are suggesting so why bother discussing it. You're the only one who "remembers" it.

Actually, I remember that too, and I'm too young to have seen that in the theater...

but, to be honest, since I cant remember exactly when and where i saw it, and what media i saw it on, i cant prove squat. and i'm sure someone will try and tell me i didn't see this too, but hey whatever... just making conversation.

Huh?

All the scenes that were added back in to the TV version are on the official dvd.

Do you mean that they were added back into the movie? Or on the second disc? I haven't bothered cracking that disc open yet but I thought we were discussing creating a "complete" version, thus the mention of the TV scenes.

They're on both the original release and the newer re-release.

Someone had mentioned all the TV scenes weren't on the DVD and they are.

I'm not sure about any missing footage, but this is highly unlikely. I know some '60's movies were later re-rated after being "M/A" (after the MPAA's still-used ratings were in place in 1968) or X (i.e. Midnight Cowboy is now R)-- but I'm pretty sure Jaws was always PG.
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.
