It seems that the Falcon and Wedge only have the explosion to out ride on the way out of the Death Star 2 after all the twists and turns of the way in.

Pacing is a premium and yes those obstacles could still be there and arguably we don't need to see them but if we saw a twist or two (and maybe a collapsing of some of the tunnel elements) it might add even more tension on the way out.

Not as many wiggles as the way in but enough to remind us that the wiggles are still there.

If I was the emperor I would install a flap in there somewhere.

There has been a lot of talk about what had been planned for the huge space battle.

B-Wings doing more, Ships on Fire, Rebel Blocade runners ramming ships.

Does anyone have a link to storyboards or other material?

I just discovered that there was a The Making of Return of the Jedi Book from 1983.

http://www.amazon.com/Making-Star-Wars-Return-Jedi/dp/034531235X

Anyone have a copy of this?

I am sure Ady when he goes to re-do the big space battle will draw upon the ideas that the original creative team had come up with but couldn't do.

Here's some great Ralph McQuarrie art that is undoubtedly from the B-Wings sequence that got cut when they couldn't properly composite the B-Wings. This one, meanwhile, is closer to what we got. Both taken from this site.

This claims to be a storyboard of Mon Calamari Cruisers bombarding the surface of DSII, taken from this site though the H in the corner suggest it's from ye olde StarWars.com.

Yeah I've got a rather battered copy of it (I must of lent it to someone at some point because the spine has been over worked and some of the pages are loose).

It's quite an interesting read.

If he hasn't already read it I'm sure he would find the whole thing interesting.

Not much in the way of dropped plot ideas that can't be found elsewhere but it does break down the process of making the film in some detail.

You'd be better asking him personally.

I think there is a thread on the Star Wars discussion boards about Star Wars making of books (if not there should be).

That's not TV's Frink's old avatar...that's TV's Frink! ;-)

The one holding Luke's saber looks...well...

It would have been a nice twist if some of the Rebels were compelled to hand over Luke for an amnesty.

Remember this piece of concept art?

Its a shame nothing like it was used in the film, as it might have given us a look at an OT seatrooper, or water based assault...

Sorry if you didn't intend this, but I couldn't help but laugh at this image.  I love the flippers :-)

lol....i dont mind at all....if I'm not mistaken its a custom action figure...I just pasted it into the image to give a rough idea of what a scene with sea troopers might look like. Its not my creation at all. Whoever created it actually used the jetpack from the rocketeer (which just looks all kinds of wrong)

Theres not much in the way of seatrooper imagery out there. As far as I know, this is it

I think I remember seeing some costumes done for a convention a while back, but it definitely would have been nice to see them on film

I could easily see them having both.

As for where a scene like this might fit into the film, I believe it would go right after Luke surrenders himself to Vader. Vader gives the order for the troops to search out Luke's remaining friends, but we never see anything come of it, the very next scene is Han, Leia and company attacking the bunker. It would add more urgency if on the morning of the attack it was shown that imperial troops were attacking ewok settlements, looking for them. You don't even need any of the main characters, just show troopers raiding different ewok villages. One of them could be on a lake as per the mcquarrie concept art, thereby bringing the seatroopers into play

its just too bad the Ewok movies aren't on blu-ray, as theres footage there that could definitely be useful......

While not in love with the "sea troopers" concept (feels like a ploy for a new action figure to me), this story point is AWESOME, ups the dramatic odds in act three, and makes perfect sense story-wise.
