It's all your work guys, I just write it down. :-)
Thanks to Darth Solo I came into possession of the mattes released in the ScreenThemes set. Using Photoshop CS3's Photomerge and some editing of my own, I have managed to show how much more (or less) of the matte we gain from these files. (mattes are red tinted for clarity)
I'm not sure how much we'd gain vs the HD images, but creative editors can do some pans and such, for example on the walker. Barring Vaderios and Venal recreating each matte from scratch, which would be the perfect plan.

First of all, well done on the comparison shots, I always like that sort of thing to show some of the choices that were made regarding the framing of shots.
One problem though, the mattes in the screen themes set are nearly all cropped, which would really limit any use of them to show more. It's quite surprising how much of matte paintings are sometimes wasted anyway in framing, but why Screenthemes cropped everything to 4:3 I don't know, it's very annoying.
I've got scans of some of the original mattes at pretty high res, with the painter's rough work off the canvas still showing, which is quite nice.
Oh God. Someone please fix that Falcon matte behind Han and Lando. Maybe add a dude into the painting behind the Falcon to blend the "Hey, I'm an actor walking in front of a bluescreen" look. Maybe have him working on that B-Wing cockpit in the background? I really dislike it when Lando starts walking toward it.

I think Ady said he was going to replace those mattes with model shots (like the similar one in the ESB Hoth hanger).
Oh cool.
I follow the ESB:R pretty closely but don't recall: has ady gone as far as adding live-action footage of extras and comping them into shots? I just wonder because it really helps sell matte shots if you can add depth and hide seams by putting extras into backgrounds.
I know the DS2's size was discussed earlier along with the laser.
Another part of that i'm wondering about is: this huge new DS larger and more powerful than the planet-destroying DS1 now destroys...........
.....one ship at a time.
Oooh. The rebels should really be scared now.
Maybe the laser takes out an entire wing of the fleet or something? Makes the rebels situation more dire.
Here's a little something I whipped up yesterday. When I read posts a while back about showing scary holograms above C-3P0 during the 'flying chair' scene, I misread it as a discussion about the story telling scene.
lol
Anyway, it's still a cool video, even if it's not what was suggested. Enjoy...if you dare!

Yeah, I have to say that that matte is pretty sad. Its really sad when you think that the only scene with the full-sized Falcon ended up on the cutting room floor, and the only times we see it are either model shots or paintings with no life or true dimension for them. I do hope that Ady can get the models to redo these shots.

I think the camera is locked off too so that would make it easier.

That matte really cheeses me off whenever I watch ROTJ - and I also hope all the work that needs to be done on it is feasible.

this is how i always invisioned the sarlaac pit fight. if luke is hitting the guys with his lightsaber there should be some sort of evidence that he's hitting them and not just they're falling backwards like they r being pulled by a rope.
ever since ROTS i knew, this is how it should be.

Well if they can show Darth Maul sticking his saber through Qui-Gon in TPM, then they can show this. This is sped up too.
By the way, how much camera movement are in these shots? I need to watch ROTJ again.

there r a few... i never keep count but i know there are a few there.
Nice mock-up, but I just don't get why all these people look like they're made of metal inside, vaderios. ;) Does burnt flesh look like molten lava? Heh.
lol. I think he's just doing it to show the effect of it. So we can see it. Heck, it could work if slash marks were all that appeared. In fact, vaderios may have made a mock up of that some time ago. I know someone here did.

I believe he is mimicing the look of Anakins saber going through the seperatists bodies in ROTS. It wouldn't last for very long on screen.

I imagine in motion it'd look ok.
Actually, If you pay attention to a campfire you will see little embers flying around. That lightsaber should be burning their flesh so I could see burnt flesh have embers fly out in that fashion.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Angel, I did something fun with your Rancor mockup.

Actually i was thinking how we can make solo's awake more decent.
If you ignore the gel on han's face, the organic wax something look around him, makes the transition from the hot timpana to the solid one rather just solid.
-Angel
I know something can be done. I messed with the levels of han when he is ultra magenta earlier today and I made his skin tone natural. It is just fixing what is around him. I think That is a good idea. Is there anyway to have carbonite ozzing out of his hands. I mean it is like he just had carbonite around him instead of all on him. I think they should have had it come out of his nose and fingers. It is like he was just in a metallic coffin. It really doesn't sale. I thought it was cool back when I was 5. But like your mockup, I would really like to see it gooier.
