Agreed Bingo, Arizona was never going to look like Tunisia, yet they didn't even make the most of what they had there. I can only blame Marquand for that, and Alan Hume for bizarrely substandard cinematography. But it's easy for us all to criticise now, when back in 1981-2 Jedi was having production issues and movies were becoming frightfully expensive to make. And during that period Lucas was also going through his divorce from Marcia Lucas, which cost him $44 million. So there were problems.

Sure, the film is very flawed, but I can forgive a lot of it. And we can try to fix the rest ;-)

  1. (Enhance AT-ST explosion that is crushed between the two logs. )

Hey guys just thought i would do another pic for the list :P

I was also never satisfied with the effect in this shot, i have a go on Photoshop of tryin to do a mockup of this improvement. Ive gotta say ive really impressed even myself on this one (head expands lmao).

It looks nice, but would the Scoutwalker head really explode like that? It's not hit by a laser blast, it's just crushed in, so I don't think it needs an explosion.

Presumably there are combustable mechanisms and electronics in there it could have ruptured a fuel tank.

What do those things run on anyway?

Hey i made the explosion bigger simply because if you watch the scene there is a AT-ST that falls over some logs and makes this explosion.

Damn, those things really don't comply with health and safety, do they? I mean, what good's a seatbelt?

I think the thing that looks a bit crap about that trap is the little headless chicken left behind (it seems a bit odd after such a big bang that the legs are still there bouncing up and down and it makes the vehicle look like what it is, a very small model).

DuTwan I'm enjoying your mockups but could you scale them down a bit please (unless you are doing something really epic) they take up a lot of space at their current size when you could make the same points with less space.

If people want to see the full sized versions they can still open them in a seperate tab/window.

I know it's meant to be the Dune Sea but it doesn't look much like a sea of sand and Arizona can look very exotic but they seemed to have found the most boring bit of desert they could :

Arizona can look nice

Sorry DT, I'm on the laptop at the moment (only one track button) so I don't know what the mouse action currently looks like but the images open for me when I do ctrl click.

I don't have that option either. Hm.

As for the Dune Sea, Bingo, I think we shouldn't overdo it. It is meant to be an endless ocean of sand, so maybe we just need to find a way of creating that more successfully. Exotic rocks are all very pretty but are they appropriate? I think opening up some shots to extend the landscape is better. I'm working on a much wider establishing shot of the Sarlacc scene that really places it in the middle of a vast desert, rather than all those horrible tight shots which feel studio-bound evenb though it's on location!

The dunes in Dune looked more like an ocean of sand.

The sky was the wrong colour for Tatooine but maybe some of Jedi could be Lynch.

vaderios, I love that opening of the window placing Jabba in the shadows effect. It adds so much to make it look like a place instead of a set. Bravo!

The subtle stuff is so much fun because you can really take things amd make them better without banging you over the head with it.

Weequay's eyes also very cool.

There's nothing really new in those pics though, and there are plenty of better images of Saturn to use if you want to. I'd prefer to make my own planet, as no matter what you do I just think you can always tell when it's Saturn.

Angel, once again I love the new mockups!

The backlight in Jabbas palace adds some great mood and depth.

The no underpants is fun...I knew someone would attempt this at some point!

And the new sky and sand at the sarlac pit helps tremendously!

Keep'em coming!

How's that new opening scene for ROTJ coming? Will it be a video? or only mockups?

Really good job there - LOVE the added imperial helmets scene and 3PO line about them being confused as imperials right before the torches come out (though you could play with how 3P0 reacts to what the Ewoks are doing as they carry him to their tree home - would he say "How splendid!" or would he be scared and worried and say "Where are you taking me?!" or something along that line?  That could keep the tension up a little.)

Also, watching your clip brought up a problem I had with JEDI in the original: if 3PO is considered a god, godling or messenger of the gods, why would the chief just ignore him until Luke made him float?  And others have brought up that the Empire has floating bikes as well as a Death Star floating above them.  So another suggestion:

- rather than have the chief ignore 3PO (or in other words, ignoring their god), have 3PO repeat to Luke that he CAN'T act as a god and refuses to cooperate.  That is when Luke not only lifts 3PO up, but either has him glow along the lines of how the Excalibur sword had the greenish glow in the movie EXCALIBUR - nothing too elaborate or goofy, but something to add to the effect.  That or his eyes shoot out beams of light - something to add to the mere floating to set 3P0 apart from the other technology that has surrounded the Ewoks (in fact, when he first sits up when they fall out of the trap, maybe his eyes light up then and 3PO readjusts them to normal - it is when they are shooting beams of light out that the Ewoks react to as well as his overall appearance) .

Maybe this is where 3PO's lines of Ewok where the last part sounds like he says "..and you'll be sorry!" is played, but louder, more boomier.  3PO wouldn't be in control of his voice, as Luke is also making him say (in Ewok) the lines to release them or they will be sorry, thus overriding 3PO's programming and his refusal.

There are people who are very much against what I am about to suggest:

It is known by prop-freaks (such as myself) that Luke used at least four separate lightsaber props, plus the one that was shot out of R2-D2. The prop in the "I see that you have constructed a new lightsaber" scene is commonly known as the "Hero". A variation of this (modified after filming) is what has been replicated and sold by Master Replicas.

I suggest that the other lightsaber props be edited to look more like the "hero", wherever possible. One of the props on the sail barge (known in prop-circles as the "Yuma saber") is very much like the "hero saber", but it lacks a circuit board and some of the gold paint has rubbed off. The one on the Emperor's chair has a knob that is not present on any of the others.

Great stuff SSWR (nice to see my wee Ewok god turn up) I shall have a look at making a larger scale variation for the way you have used it (the one I designed was meant to be like an indoor shrine version rather than an outdoor totem). I will try and scale the idea up (more Wickerman than Greenman).

The dialogue from the radio version works very well indeed, it would be nice if we could remove the comical lilt in the incidental music, what comedy there is doesn't need to be enhanced with music and it removes any feeling of threat (the scene should be both worrying in a general view but amusing in relation to their reaction to Threepio). The Wizard Of Oz inspired chanting could be tinkered with to make it sound a little bit more sophisticated (distorted Tibetan chanting springs to mind).

I don't mind them disobeying Threepio, it would make sense that they should test him.

I would like to see some attempt to get Artoo to project frightening images over Threepio, it still seems odd that they are scared of him floating when they have seen things like Speeder Bikes and Metal moons.

Luke could just call out to Artoo and he improvises.

The Ewoks really need work done on their eyes too but it really is amazing work.

Pity we can't fix Harrison's gurning (can we?).

Darth Lars, I agree, if it is possible to unify the look of all the saber props it should be done.

005 address me some of these.

41. Fix saber on/off issues.

Weirdly enough im curious because ady said all the PT sabers will get a OT treatment. Im very anxious to see how he will remove the ignition flare from lightsabers in AOTC and ROTS, rather adding it in the OT.
