Beautiful matte's, Darth Venal!
Works such as this will go a long way in improving on ROTJ.

Bingowings said:The lighting on the hilt in Angel's mockup is a bit out (but who I'm I to talk in my mockups the lighting is frequently all over the place), I can't remember which point the hilt should be in it's spin off hand so maybe that's off too but at least the blade is coming out of the right end and is the right colour.
So some of the way there.
Hah lucky guess. I light it more intence in purpose to show the different angle of the hilt :)
@ady: ok sir ,thanks for the info :D

Dang, I have ALWAYS hated that matte, ever since I was a kid. A new and improved one one that doesn't look so obvious would be on the short version of my ROTJ wishlist.
First pic I replaced a good blade with a crappy one. Wait! Im confused.
Second pic I add the missing part on saber's hild and i made glossy the bubble eye of R2 to march with the rest of saga.
Edit: Because the battle was shot on different day times...
I tried to remove the sun down feeling to make it more daylight

There seems to be a lot of clouds in mock-ups. Tatooine shouldn't have that many because there's pretty much no water.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I agree.
But tattoine always had clouds even from space or ground shots.
Less green screen effect- better sky/colors.
Now they have some sky illumination.

great work angel.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Here is my Palpy Slug Saber Frame Fix. I can't see the slugs anymore. Hopefully you guys cant either. Now the slugs have the texture of the hood instead of just being black slugs LOL. the sabers are off. but still. Sorry for the shitty lens flare but hey I can't help it I HAVE PROBLEMS LOL

Other than the shitty lens flare it looks good :P
I don't see any slugs.
I'd like to see some yellow where the sabers cross, though, since red + green = yellow in the wonderful world of light.

LOL! I just notice that vader belt buttons are still behind the emperor :P
I assume is an unused shot from previous dialogue and they just add the sabers. LAME!!!!
thanks for that ESF. One more to do the 005's list

He can still be 'behind' Palpy, while having his saber infront of him.
Star Wars Episode XXX: Erica Strikes Back
If you want Nice, go to France
Not from that angle tho.the saber sould be perspectively from vader to the camera when blocks the saber from look that comes from camera to palps.
i would suggest an other more dramatic "x" of sabers to be more accurate, but why so panic when we can erase the buttons from behind?
Poor effects. I m sure ady will make it better

Yes, in about three years' time. A quick mock-up to tide us over?

Great work Angel! That lightsaber emitter not matching up to the prop always bothered me.
Is there any way to make the Jedi duels look more like they did in the PT? Nothing drastic. Mabey have them hold on to the saber with 1 hand or something.
Also, I would add CG buildings on Endor because I never bought how the Empire had one little room controling things. Make it look intimidating.
I think there needs to be a bigger battlefield. Show different places on Endor and do some airial shots of Endor to make the battle feel larger.
I think most people would like to see the PT duels look more like OT ones but Mark Hamill frequently asked if he could use different fencing styles and was told by Lucas that lightsabers don't work that way (always in motion is the future, the past....).
It would be very difficult, if not impossible to do convincingly (just look how fake some of Dooku and Sidious' acrobatics look) and to pull it off you'd possibly have to stick Mark's head onto someone else's body.
It would be easier to do with Vader but only a little bit, unless you removed him altogether and replaced him with a double in a suit and matched it perfectly (something else they couldn't do in the PT).
Beefing up the ground battle is much easier and there are plenty of suggestions on this thread for how to do that.

You know, I really like that idea. Not overkill, but I think some angle like the Empire destroying the forest to build its base would be a great addition, and deepen the nature vs technology aspect.
Hmm, that's got me a thinking.
The industrializing of Endor comes up every once in awhile, I wouldn't mind Lucas doing that for a Final Cut. I remember thinking in 97 that there would certainly be more dishes or reactors or whatever on Endor, having just seen what was done to mos eisley. Instead we got...an extended musical number? the hell?
Even i like the idea of more buildings, i dont know if it would be a surprise for rebels an entire legion that awaits them.
Bigger and more buildings=tech, bigger guns, more troops.
Otherwise id love to see an Imp base as well :)
-Angel
I think it's fine as it is simply due to the fact that Palpatine allowed the rebels to know the location of the shield generator. If there were many buildings around it, it would be a give away/easy to find.
That's why I suggested having a big troop approach sequence (while the Rebels are in the bunker) showing them marching and flying in to take out the small band of Rebels, seen from many angles, so the audience thinks,"How the hell are they going to get out of this one?"
The assembled troops we see in the current versions are about the amount of troops you'd expect to be there anyway, not the entire Legion that Palpatine boasts about.
What was the EU explanation for that? Can't see the Troopers for the trees?
I don't know?
Maybe IG-88 blew the extra troops up trying to take over the universe in revenge for all the battle droids killed in the Clone Wars or something.
Hell hath no fury like a robot scorned.
yeah....
