NOTE: we do not discuss how to obtain this, OK guys?

I just thought it was interesting that an alternative cut of this film is available before it’s even hit the cinemas.

It also shows from a technical standpoint some of the stages a film goes through before a final audience sees it, in this case alot of temp sound effect and music layers and some shot pacing (and altered shots as mentioned in the article).. as you say Moth3r very interesting but at the same time disappointing that some people in the industry leak things that perhaps they shouldn't.

I'm glad that this leaked; it's cool to see the production of it.
The theatrical version is going to be different anyways. Alot of cuts and even different ending.
I'm still going to go see this in the theater Friday with some friends.

I saw parts of this at a friend's house I have to say that adding more gore was exactly the wrong direction to go, if you ask me. It was already more bloody, more visually violent (and more graphically sexual) than the first two Halloween movies combined. The strength of the original was in its shadows, its mood. I had no doubt Zombie would go for blood, but to try and improve the movie by adding more . . . I just don't get it. Maybe I'm wrong, and it'll be a huge hit, but I don't think so (granted, it may be a colossal failure for reasons other than it is too violent).

I have really changed the way I look at films now that I have kids. The original Halloween I rank as a must see classic. There is very little blood shown. The clip of Rob Zombie's version to me just seemed "brutal". I really can't enjoy that.

I guess I'm getting old.

The thing is, though, why would you want to remake a film and try to do it the exact same way? If Rob Zombie had tried to re-do Halloween in the same way (very slow-paced, all the violence in shadow, etc), it would be boring as shit. We've seen that movie before. If you're gonna remake a movie, make it your own. And Rob Zombie movies are fucking graphic. That's all there is to it.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Fair enough, and like I said, I didn't expect anything other than lots of gore. But to me, that's NOT the way to solve a larger problem with the movie's pacing/dramatic structure. You don't fix a transmission by giving the car a new coat of blood-red paint. I mean, at bottom, isn't that what Lucas did with the prequels--don't bother with fixing a story, just give lots of new visual effects?

I know I should probably start a new thread for this but does anyone know of any video/audio/text stuff about this film and the making of it? Want to put together a little package for a die-hard Halloween-fan friend of mine.

I should add that the soundtrack is awesome. But that I would expect.

It wasn't that great in both cases, but if anything, I liked the sheer ridiculousness of the workprint ending as opposed to the stupid "keep cycling through the clip until you find the bullet" ending.

I liked the soundtrack but I liked the score done by Tyler Bates even more.

I agree in general, although I think the escape scene in the theatrical is better. Also, some of the cuts and pacing are better, but that's minor compared to the overall decline. I can't figure out why he ended it the way he did in the theatrical--made it less like the original.

I also think that the chase of Laurie Strode is more like the chase of Rachel Carruthers in H4 than the original Halloween.

Is the theatrical cut out already then? How do you know the workprint is better?

Same Make. Same Model. New Mission.

The workprint ends with...

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

...with Michael getting gunned down by (at least, I think) most of the Haddonfield police force after he gives Laurie up to Loomis. In the theatrical cut, he kills Loomis, then chases after Laurie AGAIN, and she retrieves Loomis' gun and gets caught by him, so she keeps pulling the trigger over and over again until she finally gets to a bullet that hasn't been spent yet, finally killing Michael. At least in the workprint version, it doesn't come off as tacked-on, but man, is it funny as hell, as opposed to the theatrical ending, which feels lame and tacked-on. It almost felt like Rob Zombie wanted to throw in even more twists in that ending, and for me, it doesn't work.

I think they dumped the film in August/September because they knew it wasn't going to be a hit. I've read that September is usually the release month for films the studios expect to fail -- it's just after the summer hype and before the holiday season. Though "Fear And Loathing" was released in September and I liked it....

How long until somebody releases a version with the "best" aspects of each.

Continuing from the Grindhouse thread I was just at. How about a grindhouse style version of the workprint paired with a re-edited version of Devil's Reject and the Rob Zombie Werewolf trailer from Grindhouse in the middle.
