Suddenly during the reel change before Marty goes to school in 1955 for the first time the movie cuts to the last reel where Doc and Marty are getting ready to drive the Delorean 88 in the storm and the movie is upside down and playing backwards. The crowd got a kick out of it and laughed it off but a few of us knew the projectionist was in a very dark place. We knew there was no way that reel change was getting fixed any time soon and feared the worst. 10 minutes passed and the Blu Ray comes on. The projectionist managed to save the day... the color change was definitely noticeable but I must say that on a screen that size the BD still looked great! I jokingly told my friends that they could've played the old VHS and it still would've been good. BTTF is a perfect movie that doesn't suffer to any format.

Anyways it was a great night after all and I'm glad I got to see at least half the film in 35mm even though that was a bummer. Up next I'll be seeing Jaws 40th anniversary in the water during a special inflatable screen showing followed by Conan later this month.

edit: when the film ended there was no "To be continued" scene before the credits... the Deloran flew at the audience and cut immediately to credits but it was not the 35mm print playing because of the mishap that occurred an hour in to the film. To my understanding the Blurays have the TBC credit don't they? How did that not show up?

 There was no to be continued original because 2 and 3 came out 1989 and 1990 respectively

 I was under the impression that all home format 21st century releases had the TBC logo before the credits. I know for sure the DVD has it... unless that was changed for the BD release? I do not own any movie from the trilogy on BD I only have the DCP so I am not totally sure what is to be expected.

 Good to know the BD is more true to the original film print than the remastered DVDs from the early 2000s. I saw BTTF last summer on an international flight and now I know it was definitely a DVD version since it had the TBC logo at the end. Not to mention I once owned the DVD trilogy that was released in the early 2000s but I didn't know much about cinema transfers at that time and had no idea anyways. I am still partial to the DCP because it looks so clean.

 Yeah, just too bad the BD is so digitally messed with. Really surprised that Universal hasn't announced a 4k remaster for the 30th anniversary... really surprised. BTTF is my favorite trilogy after Star Wars.

Actually, every DVD I've seen of BTTF goes straight to the end credits. I have both the 2002 trilogy set and the 2009(?) reissue with the new documentary.

I don't remember any home release after VHS/laserdisc having To Be Continued.

I've seen conflicting stories. Some people saying it is, some saying it's not. I definitely haven't seen Universal saying anything official.

 I'm not super well informed on BTTF blu-ray stuff, but are there serious problems with the transfer? I thought all the issues were due to their processing downstream of the transfer (DVNR, edge enhancement, etc). Could they end up with something decent from the previous transfer or no?

 I believe it would look pretty good if they released the same transfers without the dnr and edge enhancement. Not as good as it could look with a new remaster, but a big improvement. I just find it very hard to believe that Universal is not remastering the BTTF trilogy for it's 30th anniversary. That is outrageous if true. I also heard that they digitally erased some sparks or something by accident in one of the films, I think part III. I forget.

The DCP is not the same master as the Blu-ray.  The proportions and framing are different.  It is in fact the 2002 DVD master.

When the DeLorean is driving down the drive-in to go back to 1885, some of the flames are erased.  The same thing happened with the first Gladiator Blu-ray- the dirt removal software erased spears and fireballs.

Considering many review websites gave the BTTF set glowing reviews, I don't think they're in a position to care.  I re-read some of them recently.  4.5 out of 5, seriously?

I suppose that will happen when their only criteria for positive reviews is "better than DVD".

 It's probably a lack of caring due to how few people actually are upset by stuff like this. Plenty of people probably think it looks sharp and crisp and some how 'more hi-def'.

My girlfriend is happy to watch 240p, out of sync movies on random video hosting sites. A colleague of mine has a very negative (1) view on physical media, though he actually believes that streaming is not only the way of the future, but equal quality. He gets confused at what 'bitrate' means.
