For those curious, check it out.

It appears to be aimed at Christians, and politely explains itself in the preface.

If anything, the art looks cool. I read the first two chapters. It was funnier than I thought it would be.

Amen. Jesus looks a little like obiwan from AotC.

oh and it's like they want more passion of the christs movies. I thought passion was brilliant visually and effective emotionally, though a little sparse on story...

There are plenty of religious films out there aren't there? Ten commandments, a whole bunch of jesus movies, some mary movies, loads of biblical movies out there I'm sure... and more to come. So the super holy book's call to more christian filmmakers doesn't seem so dire to me, at least not enough to say tv gets you high. It does, but only certain shows like teletubbies and that one with the talking bison, sesame street, all those shows that are like a sweet high, in elmo's world with talking/moving furniture and mr. noodle doing something stupid.

I just finished reading it.

You are way off base. Now, I have never heard of Cory Parella either, but when I went to his web site, I found all I needed to know. He has made a couple of movies and appeared in some with Halle Berry & John Travolta (Swordfish), which is more than a lot of people can say. There is another web site, miraclepicturesstudios.com, that I found that contained his scenes. Here's the link.

He says he was influenced by "El Mariachi" to jump on the indie film bandwagon and then fell in with the wrong crowd. At some point in the late 90's, he went back to church and began writing the book. He makes some very good points, but also makes it clear that he's speaking to those who want to make Christian films -- not those who don't. He pokes fun at himself (and the church), using Star Wars as a metaphore. I was expecting a narrative that took itself too seriously, and he comes across to me as just being honest. Now, this book is not for everyone, especially those who have made up their minds already to reject using the Bible as a focus for their movie making. It's also clearly intended for a more mature audience, for he goes into depth about dealing with porn addiction. I found myself identifying with some of his personal battles.

Furthermore, I think the case for there being a huge audience for Christian films has been made. I doubt you went to see 'The Passion' over and over, but someone sure did. $600 million didn't happen by accident. And I heard home video was equal to or greater than that.

Last, it's free. Can't argue with that. Anyone else care to comment?
