…and a year later I found this site. August 2004 of last year I was searching every single place to find the OT on DVD. Of course, the anxiously awaited special special editions were being released in a couple months. I still wanted to watch the OT, in widescreen. I have never watched Star Wars in its original widescreen form other than when the 1997 editions came out on the big screen and I went to see that. Mind you, I watched my VHS first edition release about 20 times. So I finally found this site http://starwarsdvd.maclenet.com/ . After stumbling on that I realized there are original widescreen editions out there. So I turned to ebay where you can find everything. At that time, there were two sets on ebay. Dr. Gonzo’s set which was going for around $100-120cdn. It came with the white “Definitive Collection” covers. The set looked really nice. Then there was Cowclops set dubbed “TR47” at the time. It was going for $50-60cdn. So I opted for that set which came with original TR47 DVD covers. At this time, I didn’t know anything about torrents nor did I know other people were sharing this movie through P2P. Yeah, I was pretty stupid I guess. It arrives at my door and I’m extremely happy with the set. No menu’s but the video/audio quality is superb. At last, watching star wars as how it was intended.
A year later I pop in Star wars after seeing revenge of the sith. About halfway into the movie it just stops and freezes. WTF??. I paid $70 for these discs with shipping last year and this is what I get. I tried it on two other DVD players and same thing happened. I finally aquired a DVD burner(NEC 3420A) and popped it in there for a scan disc run. The last few of the VOB files are corrupt.
A last, I find this site and its just amazing the generosity and kindness that goes on here. I can’t believe how many edits there are now. My personal favourite is still TR47 for video/audio quality, Editdroid for the menu system, Dr.Gonzo represents “Definitive Collection” feel. I asked a question just now where to find the gonzo set and it was answered within a couple hours, so awesome!!!. I’ll be passing these movies along to my friends hoping that nobody else gets duped the way I was.
Once again, thank you guys for your incredible knowledge and these forums.
BTW, I do own the VHS “faces” widescreen black box but just don’t own a vcr. Who would want one these days anyway?.lol
