I'm looking fwd to this release, if only for completeness' sake (Adywan's AVCHD is my go-to version right of the 97 SEs right now).

It is still going, still trying to get the 5.1 audio to work, having a problem with ANH side 2,it does not match up perfectly to the video rip,and working on,or at least trying to get the video to look a little better.

and I am not doing any of the special features, they have all been done and released already, this is just a movie only with DD 2.0 & 5.1 audio, anamorphic, and trying to clean it up a bit, trying.

didn't think anyone cared so I stopped posting, but still very much working on it.

Take all the time you need. Anything is better than VHS. Good news to hear this is still going. (The best version of the 97's I have now is a PAL LD rip that's heavily compressed!)

Isn't Adywan's AVCHD the 04 color corrected to look like the 97's?

Yeah, Adywan's AVCHD are color-corrected to something like '97, and use the '97 SE's 5.1 Audio. Empire Strikes Back was returned to the '97 version (old Emperor is back, original voice of Boba Fett is back). But it would be nice to have these versions all the same.

ALL files I hope are still sitting safely on my external 1 TB drive,I just switched to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit from 32 bit Windows XP so I am having some serious issues getting things to run, namely encoders and such, hell avisynth isn't even running right yet and I NEED it.

so it is still going to be sometime yet.

And I on 32-bit Linux am running avisynth just peachy.

And people wonder why I won't make the move to AMD64, considering I'm on my second AMD64 computer.

I had no trouble at all with AviSynth, etc, when I moved from 32 to 64 bit (still on Windows XP though). Just don't try to use the 64 bit versions of these things.

Don't scrap another project mid-way, remember what happened last time iwth the JSC? You hoped for the X9 and we don't have it yet either.

I say at least release this, subpar by comparison to Max_Rebo's work or not.

Believe me if I would have known this is what would have happened,I would not have srapped the JSC take 2 project, now I really wish I would have kept the files and scripts.

Max's project is likely going to take much more time to complete. Since so much has already been done on this one, why not just go ahead and finish it? I've been really desperate for a good version of the SE.

nothing is lost, it is all safe(I hope)on an external drive.

I just had my external drive out and ALL files are still safe on there, I was worried for a bit LOL.

Well I like the broadcast versions of these files way better than the LD caps, so I have started working on my own '97 SE set like Max_Rebo, I should have all 4 versions of ANH converted to NTSC by tomorrow, and damn does the Flunk look good, definitely the base.

Flunk is already converted now to do the other 3.

dark_jedi how's the ESB and ROTJ coming along? The screenshots for ESB look very good quality compared to the many versions I've seen floating around.

 (Edited)

I hope this project will work out great. I've seen Flunk now, and it is overall much better than Reivax, higher bitrate, better framing, english opening crawl without foreign subs and though the picture quality is better it have gone through some heavy sharpening, halos and edge enhancement everywhere. EDIT: It looks like it was just the contrast that had been tweaked on this version, when I turned it down a bit, it looked much better IMO. Unfortunately it have the same flaws as every other '97 transfer, bad contrast and inconsistent colors from scene to scene and motion smear and why is Greedo blue & gray in every '97 version?! It seems we're very lucky to have gotten the overall good color timing of these films only once! The Gout is a small miracle in that regard. But I must say that the Flunk do look fantastic in the few scenes where the original photography shines through.

Anyway, I'll gladly help you out with the subs but the font I thought it was, (ITC Franklin Gothic Demi Bold) is not the correct one. I've compared every font in that family with the pictures from my thread and no one is a perfect match, the letter g is very peculiar. I'll continue to look for the right font but any help with that is appreciated.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

So are the 5 Star SE DVD's and the Gkar versions just a 5.1 upmix? does anyone know for sure?

Author

I remember reading that the 5-star set was not a genuine 5.1 mix, but you're better off asking whomever told me (wait, who was that?)
