It must be difficult to campaign for Scottish independence as a KBE (Bond turned down his KCMG) living in a hellishly sunny tax haven.

I declare my grapes sour but only because I lack the opportunity to for this particular form of hypocrisy (I'm not a big fan of hot climes and while my home turf may be damp, cold and subject to plundering from a slightly alien culture it is at least my turf).

Sean Connery is so Scottish it must hurt him . But lets face it he is the only James Bond , the English the Welsh the Irish and the other bloke fail misserably.

Scotland forever!

Well, Roger Moore is the English bloke, Dalton is the Welsh bloke, Brosnan is the Irish bloke, Lazenby is Australian, so I will assume he is the "other bloke".

Ah, Lazenby!  I quite liked him actually.  There is always Barry Nelson as CI agent Jimmy Bond.  Any fans?:D

Connery was the best Bond, though I like Dalton and Craig very much too.  Happy birthday, Connery anyway!

Don't forget Niv! And Sellers and virtually the rest of the cast including two trained seals...

I really miss Connery acting.

Connery is one of my top 6 favorite real men, only following John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Steve McQueen, and Lee Marvin, . Which makes me beg the question, why the hell are there so many wussies nowadays. Used to be that actors had to be manly to get anywhere, now we got these little girly type guys like Tom Cruise, Orlando Bloom, Daniel Radcliffe, Shia Labeouf, Tobey Mcguire, etc. All are big time wussy types, I miss the good ol' gruff tough guy, hard living man actors which I aspired to be like growing up. Now they're all touchy feely, "let's talk about our emotions" bullcrap wimps.

Oh yeah, Connery is #1 Bond, Moore #2, Brosnan #3. I do not like this Craig, and I always thought Dalton was just a joke that the producers of 007 made up.

While some men are still built to those specs (and what specs!)

Sean Free

they are often the subject of ridicule because of the association with muscles and body hair with hyper-masculine homosexual iconography (which is still treated with unease and giggles). The irony is that the male icons we have now look more feminine (something that is traditionally also associated with the homosexual stereotype and thus derided).

It is all an act though from Connery.

A real man would suffer the weather and political climate of his homeland while fighting for his political aims instead of throwing rocks from behind a tax free sunny barricade.

True heroes aren't hypocrites and don't throw their weight around physically weaker people.

He is a great star though (even if he rarely got to do much acting) The Hill, The Anderson Tapes and The Offence are rare examples of him being pushed as an actor rather than being just a star.

In Outland he gave an under-rated performance which is largely ignored because of it's Science Fiction/Western crossover trappings.
