Inconsistencies across the saga

Rewatching the movies now, all these small differences between the movies keep popping into my head, and was after input from others about what you see is different over the course of the movies, and may have come to accept. Some of these should have been fixed with the new Blu-Rays, some should never be touched. This isnt an GOUT unaltering topic, but if Lucas fixes some things, why doesnt he meddle in others?

A few examples -

Millenium Falcon cockpit door - Not present in ANH, but there in Empire.

Lightsaber battles - Green flashes present in ANH & Empire (possibly Jedi, yet to rewatch). Not in the prequels.

Lightsaber colors - An obvious one, much discussion made in other topics.

Vader helmet - Sith, Empire and Jedi have the shiny reflective helmet, why wasnt this redone in ANH?

Millenium Falcon engine - Blue in ANH, white in Empire and Jedi.

Most "normal folk" won't notice these inconsistencies. And it's easier for Lucas to make broad, seemingly needless changes rather than artfully tailor each film to be perfect. Priorities... Lucas' are a little whacky in that they are not skewed toward hardcore fandom.

This bugged me the other day. It's so painfully obvious I never thought about it until now.

The CLIMAX of ROTJ is Luke throwing his lightsaber away, rejecting violence, and taking his mantle as a Jedi.

Luke is not stupid. He beat Vader, refuses to kill him, and apparently thinks he won.

This is great... but it hinges on the fact that neither Yoda nor Obi, both of whom have first hand knowledge of how this works, mentioned to him that the Emperor can shoot freakin lightning, and Luke could block it with his lightsaber.

Just one more way the PT totally drops the ball.

My biggest gripe;

Obi-Wan "There you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me."

I would like to point out there is a bigger line hinting at Yoda being Obi-Wan's MAster which people missed in the ESB:Revisited thread... When trying to explain the line or suggest a change to it;

Obi-Wan "Was I any different when you taught me?"

.... Actually Luke I learned from Qui-Gon.... >.>

 The other day my wife came to my work, and I introduced her to a colleage who was actually my teacher when I was in the 8th grade.

"This is Mr. Koffman, my old science teacher." is what I said. I didn't say, "This is Mr. Koffman, one of several science teachers who taught me over the years." I think she still understood me just fine.

I think the analogy is somewhat faulty though; we're not talking about school. Infact the established way of teaching in the Prequels is to have a Padawn and ergo one main teacher. Also you also make a distinction in your sentance when you say "Science Teacher" so you are in fact categorising him.

Plus I think your point would of worked if we were just discussing the OT, but I just don't think your explanation holds water (no offence). I would of been more sympathetic to your point of view if it was just the one mention rather than the too, plus Obi-Wan's statement seemed to indicate he was similar to Luke at HIS age... As such I personally think its a contradiction...

(My apologies for being pedantic on language use; too much philosophy over the years ;-))

Yes, we are talking about school. Yoda is a teacher.

Fixed.

Irony.

Yeah, but when he says the Jedi Master who instructed me, it sounds more like there would have been just one master.  If he had said a Jedi Master, then ok I agree it wouldn't have been inconsistent in the PT.

Well, I didn't mean to come off as snarky. However, you are the one that said you're pedantic about language use.

I was referring to Obi-Wan within the films, not any posters. But fine, I hear the f*** off, I'll leave you all in peace.

Not really an inconsistency, but its interesting to see how much less physical the force is in A New Hope. Everything, from Luke's focus in the death star trench, to Kenobi's mind trick, Skywalker's ability to sense the target they could all be seen as the extent of the Force's powers via the mind. Even Motti being choked by Vader could be argued as Darth simply making him think that he's being suffocated.

It isn't until Empire that we see Vader crushing people's tracheas, Luke moving his lightsaber around, and doing big jumps in the air.
