You really should go and see a doctor especially if you haven't done anything to crack a rib because coughing like that can be the sign of a serious chest infection.

Not clear? Saw the doctor. X-rays. Strained muscle(s). Cough is part of a sinus infection I caught earlier, and the cause of the muscle strain.
