I've had an allergic reaction to something in the gardens of Chateau Bingowings and I'm covered in itchiness and I look like a humanoid poppadom.

I fed the frak up with the gorram royal wedding. UGH

Get on with it.

I do apologise.

I was asked to cook up a sophisticated hypnotic distraction on today's date but I was too busy trimming my beard so I just said to Earth's Reptilian overlords, throw the sheep a Royal Wedding.

A bit of bunting and millions will forget the shafting they are getting and I get to have a nice trimmed beard.

Shame about the itchy skin though.

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My computer was acting up, and turns out I had a Trojan. So I tried getting rid of it. And it worked. But now I've accidentally wiped one of my hard-drives. And I had no backups for it. Goddamnit!!!

I don't know if it's the same elsewhere but for the duration of the day my interwebs have been either down or slowed to a crawl.

It was like that for me too. But it seems to have calmed down now.

But is OT.com still down?

Post about it in the appropriate thread.

Every time River Song smirks at The Doctor and calls him 'sweetie', I want to smash my television screen with a baseball bat.

However, if I did that, I'd be unable to see how Moffat's ridiculously brilliant plot is going to play out.  This is an infuriating and unresolvable dilemma.

I know what you mean, she is such a mary-sue.

I wish that her character would just die.

Oh wait she does.......HOORAY!!!!!!!

:p

Actually, the fact that we already know exactly what happens to her highlights one of the very serious writing problems she exhibits.  With the ending being a foregone conclusion, there is absolutely no potential for character development whatsoever.  Nothing she does can ever have any real impact or meaning or make her believably matter.  In a way, it seems to me that he on some level knows that already, and is content to just leave her as a caricature: since whatever she has done to be important is supposed to have 'already happened' in the future, we're just supposed to take her word for it that we should actually care?  Puh-lease!  It's such a cheat from a writing standpoint, a complete cop-out on making any effort for her to seem like a real person.  Moreover, it's a cheap gag that breaks the fundamental rule of 'show don't tell'.

Even if her smugness didn't make her infuriatingly obnoxious, I would still call rubbish.  We're really supposed to believe she's The Doctor's ideal woman or whatever the hell just got crammed down the viewers' throats?  Excuse me while I go watch a show that actually bothers to give its women some semblance of personality . . .

You presume that River is always the same River and that the Doctor is always the same Doctor and that the end is always the final end.

In that show anything could happen and should happen more often.

Now Rose Tyler on the other hand...

I am willing to acknowledge the possibility that it could improve, particularly since it looks like there could be some kind of timeline split or alternate universe type thing going on.  And as I said, the plot and general science fiction aspects are so intriguing that I'll gladly put up with a lot to see where it ends up going.

But it doesn't change the fact that River and The Doctor have no 'chemistry' whatsoever.  The actors seem to think it's there when they film the scenes, but it sure isn't showing up on my screen.  The whole thing feels so forced and artificial.  That shootout scene, for instance?  Good grief, what a load of cringe-worthy rubbish!

I don't want to keep harping on about it, so I'll bugger off now, but . . . yeah.

I agree with you regarding the stuff with River Song. When she appeared in that lone season four episode, I thought introducing a future companion of his who knows him well but who he has never met was kind of a cool idea.

But her first appearance in season five made me do a 180 on the whole thing. She was suddenly a really irritating character, very obnoxious, and hairy_hen is quite right in that there is absolutely no chemistry on screen between the two. She is very demanding and condescending (she actually kind of takes away a lot of the appeal of the Doctor to see him reduced like that) it is really hard to imagine the Doctor ever falling in love with her.

I volunteered some information, then some user slags me off for not being fast or easy enough.  Yet I posted 12 minutes after the initial request and they took 2 phucking days.  Plus they reused the search results I provided, but did not use the search query to find more relevant ones.  Staying stupid and accusing me of being unhelpful, that's my b*tch of the day.  asshat.

Searching for well written stories on fanfiction.net is usually like looking for a penny inside a planet-sized pile of rancid maggots.  And even the minority that aren't obviously written by illiterate thirteen-year-olds tend to be pretty 'meh' for whatever reason, be they insipid 'romances' completely inappropriate to the universe's story premise; unimaginative plots; full of awkward phrasings; blatantly out-of-character behavior among the leads; or just plain boring rot in general.

And yet it's really the only place to find anything at all for a lot of fandoms, if you're not involved in the online activities of others and know where else to look.

I occasionally write myself, though I'm certainly not what you'd call prolific.  I don't claim to be the best writer ever, not by a long shot, but I at least put a lot of effort into characterisation and making sure everything feels 'authentic' to the premise of the world.  But sometimes I really think I must be one of only 5% of people who actually bother with any of that, or even has an understanding of basic grammatical principles.

Fan fiction tends to have a pretty bad name among 'normal' folk because of these things, and quite understandably so.  But that's a blasted shame, because some of the good ones you can find by looking hard enough are actually at least as well written as professional published works, and sometimes even better.  Talk about having a frustrating hobby.

It seems so trivial in the wake of the tornado damage suffered by many people in America recently but the wind is really picking up here by British standards.

Over the road huge cracks are appearing as my neighbours tree is being swung left and right like a wiggly milk tooth and I just got a bit of a scratch to my eyelid from a fast moving piece of plastic when I tried to rescue my thankfully empty upturned recycle bin.

It was rather difficult to stay standing during some of the blasts.

We very rarely get hurricane force winds here but it does seem to be rapidly building up.

Hopefully it will blow itself out by the time the Volcanic ash from Iceland get's here.

Well that's every external light at the Chateau ripped off and flown away.

All the trains cancelled and the road bridges closed so the better half is stuck at work.

The roof on next door's hut just peeled away like a kid opening a yogurt pot.

Perhaps we shouldn't have been so quick to knock the Rapture guy.
