... how do you think he career would have panned out?
I suspect he would have become one of those many Canadian actors who can never get decent roles and end up having to play bit parts in mediocre made-for-TV films and TV shows.

He would have made a fine Hamlet :P Pretty decent show actually.
He reminds me in some ways of Val Kilmer or even Kevin Costner. He may yet stumble into a part that suits him.

Ideally, the guy who played Anakin Skywalker should not have been Hayden Christensen. He always will be a terrible actor. His vocal tone sounds far too melodramatic and fake for my tastes, that's for sure. Good actors appear to be natural when they act. Hayden Christensen just reminds me of some kid throwing a temper tantrum, or somebody being sarcastic. I cannot feel any real emotion to his acting. His acting is just so wooden and fake.
I would prefer an actor that resembled, at least to a certain extent, a young Sebastian Shaw.

While it would make sense in terms of continuity, I admit I never liked that casting choice... a daddy-like Vader, he looked too soft for me, too... round. Good thing about removing those eyebrows, one of the few SE choices that make sense.
Having Anakin not catch fire from head to toe would have been a lot easier than erasing eyebrows from an old movie. ;)
Old Anakin's head wounds look more like battle scars than burn injuries anyway.
Where were you in '77?
....he would've made a great infomercial pitchman.
"There's no cluster of midiclorians that controls my destiny!" -Han Solo, from a future revision of ANH
He might have learned how to act without the spectre of that wooden performance of a leaden script hanging over his head.
He seemed to be picking up a few skills before the PT happened to him but like Jake Lloyd the role has killed his career at least for the time being.
Hayden was a good teen actor who became a bad adult actor. Whether the PT played a part in that transformation is debatable. He was definitely on the rise in 2000 and 2001, he had good credentials, maybe if he had stuck to good scripts he would have had success. Leo DiCaprio isn't a really great actor either, but he's in a hell of a lot of good movies and because of that doesn't stand out as so-so.

Like Shattered Glass? I thought he did a fine job in that movie, and had some great scenes with Peter Sarsgaard.
At this point, I think Hayden should aim for a good recurring role on a dramatic tv series - something where he could settle into the ensemble and let his character grow slowly over time.
That’s impossible, even for a computer.

I disagree. I think he's a fine adult actor. I don't think young John Gielgud could have saved Anakin the way he was written and directed.
I think if Hayden hadn't been Anakin he'd be playing character parts in a lot of movies, with maybe a shot at a leading man here and there, but probably not in an action film.

If Hayden had never played Anakin some other young whippersnapper's potential career would have been devoured by the lousy dialogue.
Hayden showed some mild promise in a couple films (Shattered Glass, Life as a House), but as an actor he's interchangeable.
My view on actors is that virtually all of their performances depend on the director and script. There are acting legends like De Niro, Caine, and those types who can certainly direct themselves, but in most cases it's the director that makes the performance.
Not to mention most young actors are basically models with no acting experience or training. Anybody can act. Some can act well with the right circumstances. Few are exceptional.
Just look at Portman. She's arguably the worst in the prequels. She probably didn't try hard anyway, but still you can see the difference a good script and clear direction can make.

What is this "pay" you speak of? ;)

The thing is Leo Decaprio made the right choice the prequels would have done nothing for his career.
And unless he had some role in re-crafting the horrible dialogue or having a replacement for Portman so there would be some actual chemistry between the actors, then he was right to not do the second 2 prequels.
Hayden is about as good as really bad soap actors, good kid bad actor.
Wrong choice for Anakin. In fact i think Fred Roos was a much better casting director. Robin Gurland stinks imho.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
James Franco was every bit as much of plank in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes as Hayden was in AOTC.
Caesar was better than Jar-Jar by a long mark.
