Eh, I think it would have been funnier to show Lord of the Rings clips with a bunch of random CGI clutter added, kind of like that Singin' in the Rain special edition video.

I didn't watch the video cuz it's blocked here at work, but....

I used to think that if anyone could pull off doing LOTR as a film, Lucas was the man. I remember thinking this after I discovered the books back in the early 90s. Lucas was the only person who could successfully pull it off.

After seeing the prequels.....shit....I'm glad he never got his hands on it. Would have fucked it up so royally.

I don't think Lucas could do it now, but I do think there was a time when he could of. I really liked Willow, even if it didn't do too well. Lucas fell too much in love with CGI.

As Gullum and the ring fall down into the fires of mount doom, Frodo drops to his knees and cries out "What have I done!"

Then Frodo turns to Sam and screams...

"YOU TURNED HIM AGAINST ME!!!"

Of course, you'll hear Sauron yell....

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

I really like this video. Whoever made got every character spot on.

not as far fetched as you would think.

at one point in time Saul Zaentz actually wanted to have George Lucas direct the lord of the rings movies.

Even before he made star wars lucas was a fan of the books. He even wanted to make lotr movies or get the rights to it at some point and instead we got willow.

Even spielberg another fan of tolkien's work was considered but passed on the project because it was obviouslly too expensive to make. These were the times lucas and spielberg where at the height of their powers the 1980's.

george even folowed the making of the lord of the rings trilogy with great interest and said peter had done a great job with the films.

that reminds me of the fact that spielberg was supposed to direct the first harry potter film and had haley joel osment cast in the role. Spielberg wanted to make changes from the novel and wanted free reign in the project and was actually fired by J.K Rowling herself . He was replaced by the director of home alone. I think spielberg was not too attached to the material anyway. of course John Willaims was there from the get go and stayed on through the directorial change to do the music.

That is a big what if. just like if james cameron had made spiderman and had leonardo dicapcrio in it.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I am so glad Lucas did not get the rights to Tolkien's Masterpiece, because we would have been treated to endless re-releases and revised Special Editions. I think Peter did a fantastic job.

I wouldn't worry about it, GL himself has stated he is not an avid reader.

I think it shows given that if he'd read the online comments about the travesties he's foisted on us recently he might have a different attitude.

I'm almost certain he cannot for legal reasons - same reason he cannot read fan mail directly: if one of the fans suggests an idea and he uses it on a film, by coincidence, the fan could sue him.

Lucas would royally screw it up nowadays.

Now, I think the "70's Lucas" doing LOTR would have rocked...
