Idea: for a Rocky VI edit

Hey everyone.

There was a thread about this here originally that I came across a while back when the movie was still in theaters about some changes to the movie that could be made.

Ive got the itch to fix up the title card, opening credits and a few other things.

First though, can anyone point me in the direction of a guide for ripping and converting for Macs? The PC guide is great, but I cant run any of that stuff.

So heres the basic gist of what I want to do.

1. Remove the entire title card and replace it with one that matches Rocky 1 (I prefer the white text of Rocky, but others may like the yellow from 2, What do you guys think?) as well as replace Rocky Balboa with Rocky VI.

2. I personally dont like the title credits that show blurry images of Philadelphia set to Take it Back.

3. Obviously insert the ending to Rocky V after the title card. Then fade to the scene of Rocky waking up, bypassing the title credits.

So basically - Rocky 1 style title crawl (with Fanfare for Rocky), Rocky V ending, fade to Rocky waking up.

Would a small location / year indication card be appropriate in between the Rocky V ending and Rocky VI starting (like was used in Rocky 1) since the movie takes place so long after Rocky V?

4. Remove the remixed rocky music from the end of the film during the credits. Replace it with something more downbeat and somber like Rocky’s Reward or Reflections. Or Rockys Reward > Reflections > Philadelphia Morning.

5. I would need to see the film again to see how possible it would be, but I really really really really despised the HBO branded prefight stuff. Probably wouldnt be a good idea to cut it, but all the same, if its possible Id like to see it gone.

Im going to start practicing cutting some preliminary stuff from a divx rip of the dvd just so I can get my bearings with it and so I can just jump in and figure out what needs to go where and how without going through the who conversion process yet. And so I can upload bits and pieces to youtube for feedback easier.

What do you guys think though? Anything else that should be changed? (Adding in a Clubber flashback during the last fight was another suggestion I remember).

I understand what you are doing and would love to see your edit when done. But with all due respect Rocky Balboa was one of the 2 best films I saw last year. The other being Casino Royal. And with each film I was expecting the worst. I am so glad they went with the ending they did. I posted a few months back how Rocky 2 - 5 could be made into one huge fight film, and use the original and this new film as bookends. Rocky III, IV and V could be cut down to about 30 min each without losing any Story (grin).

If you are going to do this Rocky VI edit, can I make a request. During the final fight, when rocky is in his daze, could you place Adrian's voice in the background saying "get Up!" from one of the other films, and Micky saying his "Get Up because Micky LOVES Ya" line from Rocky V?

I think the final fight would have had much more impact for me if they would have had Adrian talking to Rocky in his mind during the fight repeating to Rocky what he had said to their son about "Keep Moving Forward".

Well good luck with this project and like Rocky said "Keep Moving Forward"!

Yeah, I hear what youre saying, I thought it was a great movie as well. It just seemed kind of odd to me that it doesnt really match the rest of the series stylistically you know? The beginning title and credits were the only thing that bugged me honestly. I only want to do minor tweeks honestly.

I like your suggestion about the voices though. Maybe put in some Apollo from when he was training Rocky during 3 too.

Im going to work on getting my editing software set up (And Re-acquainting myself with Final Cut, its been a while since Ive used it) and obtaining the DVD, ripping, and getting it ready for editing right now.

Keep the suggestions coming though, Id love to have more ideas. Mostly how to deal with the opening fight with Dixon while still using the ending from V. It wouldnt make sense to cut the Dixon fight all together.

I would open the film with the fight from the end of V, interspersed with clips from Dixon's fight. It would kind of have a cool feel, though personally, I'd leave the film as is. I do see what you're getting at though.
