We have a US release date of January 31, 2006.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Well, my "Fanfiltration edit" of "DUNE" comes out THIS week!!!

It combines the two existing versions to make a much better movie IMHO.
My goal was fixing the horrible edit job done on the T.V. footage, plus adding the "blue within blue eyes" where it was missing. In many places, scenes have been reedited to try and faithfully reconstruct David Lynch’s original vision of the film using the December 9, 1983 shooting script as a guide. I bet Universal did nothing at all to the T.V. version but crop it to look like it's 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. MCA Video did that with the Battlestar Galactica movie a few years ago.
My fan edit is presented in a “Pan & Scan” format; as no widescreen footage of the extended cut scenes is available at the current time of this reedit production. Yes the video looks kinda bad, but the Pan & Scan laserdisc is not the best quality, and let's not talk about how bad the T.V. print is. This was the best I could do with what is out there. This is my first edit too.

Here is a preview of my menus:

I would love it to go out 100% FREE over bittorents. An Advanced copy is on the way to a distinguished member of this forum (as well as the torrent community) for testing and approval. I do hope this edit makes it's way out there.

I've never seen any alternate versions/cuts-- cool. I'd gladly PiF or torrent, but sadly I am currently unable to copy, or download DVD's.

Apparently, like the Frighteners release, it's a 2-sided DVD-18. And it was mentioned that it contains the same specs as previously announced, minus a DTS track.

We'll see if it actually comes out...
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

the R1 DVD will include an unrated extented cut of the movie. So If I understand correctly it will be the Alan Smithee cut, maybe in Widescreen and Unrated.

Well, not to highjack the thread but I watched the "Fanfiltration edit" edit just the other day...

IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subtle and well cut and the added Blue within Blue was splendid - I'll get into more detail in a day or so I want to watch it again to I think I missed a few things

If you're still interested in my edit of DUNE (the hybrid of the three major versions--theatrical, TV Allen Smithee, and KTVU versions) let me know 'cause I am interested in a trade for your Halloween edits (Halloween II hybrid and Halloween VI producer's cut). Also, you might also be interested in a new dub of the rare European documentary "Impressions Of DUNE", unreleased here in the U.S.

Thanks!

hey I just thought of
real cool idea
one of us could us the soundtrack
of the 1984 dune and edit into scfi minseries.
I would love to see the scfi minseries with the 1984 opening title
but someone would have to rotoscope out the names of the cast to crew of 84 opening title
comp in the new ones.

just in Idea.
if some one could make that opening title
could the torrent on MYSPEEN
so those of us
who like the 84 version but like the mini series much better have somthing more to enjoy.

thanx

I've recently started reading DUNE, and decided to start a cover for the upcoming Extended Edition DVD based on my book cover. Keep in mind that I have not seen the film or any miniseries version, and I'm only about 100 pages into the book so far.

Why has'nt anyone used the current remastered dvd release of the widescreen theatrical cut, and cut in the scenes from the smithee version? A composite edit of the widescreen and fullscreen from the best available sources would be great.

Currently on these boards there are 2 fan edits the fan filtration edit and the house harkonnen edit by hiphats.

So what is the best quality of the smithee print out there, foreign dvd release in pal, or japan laserdisc, or ntsc?

I've heard someone out there might have a 16mm print.

speaking of dune, fans should check out both the unabridged audiobook on cd and the hardcover of the road to dune. Quite an awesome book from Kevin J.anderson, brian herbert and unpublished bits from frank herbert.

Not to be cocky but the article by Scott Sentinella from Cashiers du Cinemart ("Only The Strong Travel This Deep" is a good resource as well. I found Sean Murphy's article lacking -- unusual for the Video Watchdog pieces wherein they compile all of the scenes in a marred film (a la FIRE WALK WITH ME).

I'd been playing with the idea of a fan edit for a while as it's my habit to watch the theatrical and TV cuts about once a month. I also have a sick habit of collecting the various releases from Brasil, France, Germany, etc. I'd be up for collecting all of the various additional docs about the making of the film into one or two discs as a supplemental to any fanedits made.

In my plans, the following would happen:

- Removal of pedantic voice-overs from the Smithee version (esp. the beginning prologue and the horrible introductions of Dr. Yeuh, etc).
- Reinstating Amidala's introdution / voice overs (otherwise, she has *one* line)
- Adding back any violence / distastfulness from the Theatrical into the Smithee ("A little bit of spittle")
- Correcting the order of the scenes where they fall out of line from Theatrical to Smithee (using Theatrical as the "proper order").
- Using the Emporor's dialogue from the Theatrical when talking to the navigator
- Removal of the extra "The water of life" on the audio track during the scene or fhe young sandworm's demise.

While I won't offer my left nut for a copy of Fanfiltration's edit, I would beg on bended knees for a copy. My wife is thoroghly unimpressed with the amount of time/energy I spend downloading and watching these edits to write about 'em (for the next issue). That might help shed some light on the subject as we watch DUNE about once a month (alternating between the Smithee and Lynch versions).

@Editors (esp. Fanfiltration) - Will this be redone come January with the non P&S bits from the new release?

And, finally, I *like* the weirding modules, BTW.
