Idea & Info Wanted: 1997 Special Edition LD on DVD?

anyone know if there is a good DVD boot of the SE from LD?

I ask because things occured to me tonight regarding image quality etc.

we all know the special editions of the trilogy were digitally recomposited so the space scenes at end of ANH + snow battle were much better right?

however the DVD visual quality is too much better than the LD for us to mix the two, that is generally agreed although I know mverta is gonna prove us all wrong on that score. well what about the SE LD which got bootlegged onto DVD? the SE on LD by my fuzzy memory wasn’t that bad. okay so it needs color correcting to match the faces or DE LD but we get a source that boasts similar picture detail as the OT LD from the faces or definitive edition version, + can then cull out the recomposited space action.

but, was there a boot DVD of the SE LD that was ever any good? what about the LOOK SE set? is that any good anyone?

When a woman says yes, she means no - when she says maybe, she means no.

I have xvid's of the 'look se ld rips' and if their anything to go by the original dvd rips should be very good quality. Plus you get the bonus that Lowry's processing system hasn't messed-up these transfers.

What you need is the German GKar version.

Check out the links on page 12 of the Star Wars - The Edits and DVDr releases thread

The crawl is in German as are the subtitles but the rest is fantastic quality.................

Since we are talking SE now, I hope I don't offend anyone by posting this...

Anyone know where I can find the 5 Star Collection (preferably DVD 9)?
I don't want the Gkar or the Reivax, because the German/French embedded subtitles piss me off...
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Check your PM's for some details.

If only someone out there could take the GKar and put all the English bits back in..........................

I have the 5 Star Collection, not sure if it is DVD 9 but it is a Factory pressed DVD and looks & sounds great. If you cant download them anywhere I could make you copy. Let me know.

The 5 Star Collection is dual-layered. If you were to shrink them to a single layered DVD, I'd suggest doing a movie only version for best quality. You can cut out the menus, trailers, and even lose the fake (and poor sounding) DTS tracks that take up a lot of space. Also, ROTJ has a 30 minute documentary on it in addition to the trailer which takes up space, too.

NOT all the 5-Stars are DVD9 dual-layered!!!

I just ordered another set to trade and they were DVD5!

YEP, they came about a month ago and they were single layer DVD5 disc BUT they were labled DVD9 on the disc art AND on the covers.

So BE VERY VERY careful about getting the SE Five Stars - I got a PM from a friend at DVD Malaysia and he said that they are no longer making the DVD9's as the are now "making" the 2004 DVD set now.
