I read the info, that the LD was indeed mastered from 2.35:1 original, but it has only a AR of 1.85:1. But my source (ofdb.de) may be wrong.

I checked it against the Complete Dossier-it's the same 2.00:1.

I seem to recall there was a Video CD release of AN via Phillips for their CDI players that was actually letterboxed. Possibly the only title not done pan and scan.

I contacted some ebayer about the VCD so lets see how it'll turns out.
I also have a guy on ebay who claims his VHS has the correct aspect ratio. he said he wasn't sure though. I sent him some pics for comparison.
BTW does anybody know when exactly Storrao decided to change the picture?

hmm, in that case the VCD would be useless aswell since it was released in 1994.
The German VCD has 1:33 Full Screen. I know it, because I own it. :)
Its also from Philips like the UK VCD (as the eBay link some posts above).

Sorry, I don't know anyone who taped this movie. As a matter of fact I am the only one i know personal who is so obsessed with movie like I am :(
I even imported two Italian DVDs, which stated to have 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Its even printed that way on the Covers. But as a matter of fact they even have just 2.00:1...
Some of the TV airings seem to be in 2.10:1 or 2.15:1, like the Marketing tape i own. But the data on ofdb.de are not allways correct.

Thank goodness they have finally decided to release it in 2.35:1!! If this can happen, why can't we get THX restored? (probably because some people didn't want to pay for a transfer of original elements.)
One thing though-is it just me or does Apocalypse have different colors than Redux?

The colors were slightly different on the DVD transfer, but I do not think there is much in it.

Not to be pessimistic, but I'll believe it when I see it. Considering that The Last Emperor made it to Blu-Ray in 2:1 I suspect this information to be erroneous.

It is true that The Last Emperor was 2.00:1, but that release did not generate the kind of controversy that the change to Apocalypse Now did. I do not blame you for being pessimistic, and you might well be right, but I think that the information is probably accurate. We shall have to wait and see.
