Idea, & Help: looking for... HBO In Space?!

This came up in another thread and I’m desperate to see this in good quality again. From mielr’s rips of Emmet Otter (I still have to mail that out >_> I salvaged a good quality copy of the actual space part, but I have yet to find the REST of the video in good quality.

An interesting alternate project I’ve thought of, was to create a new version of it, shot for shot (with a little more motion to the extras and the traffic), in CG, with a re-sequenced score. Not quite the same, but a bit of an update. Everything old is new again! (I don’t have any tools to do THIS.)

HBO would do well to take this idea up on their own. I think that the nostalgia aspect alone would draw people into watching HBO shows if they had more old school bumpers in their programming. I doubt they realize that people actually give a crap about their old promos though.

In the meantime, I'm still searching all my old tapes to find a good copy of that HBO promo.

I wonder if HBO even knows where the original film of this is? Things like that have a tendency to vanish when not used any longer, even though it seems like they spent quite a bit of money to make it. They should release it for those of us who remember it.

I just looked it up on YouTube, and I think I must have this on tape somewhere at home. My family had HBO in the 80s and 90s and taped a bunch of movies off of them. Next time I am at home for a few days (which may be in a few weeks, it may be longer), I'll look.

In the meantime, you could ask some of the folks who uploaded it to YouTube.

I believe I have this on DVD as well as the Behind the Scenes on the making of it. I would just have to search for it.
