Idea: a 'Judge Dredd : Helmeted edition' fan edit?

I know it sounds crazy, but we all have seen AMDS digital tricks on youtube where the guy can create Robocop vs Terminator fights or Neo vs Robocop fights and put both character into the same frame.

I would suggest to the memory of all wounded Dredd fans, that AMDS, or anyone able to, would digitall put that helmet back on Stallone on all The Dredd movie (Stallone over at AICN agrees he should have kept that helmet on).

Anyone want to redo the movie that way ???

Let's assume for a microsecond that anyone here has the skill to pull that off convincingly (which they do not) ...it wouldn't make one damn lick of sense.

So Dredd gets sent to prison with his helmet on? That Schneider douche has to put his hand up to his face to recognise him? In fact, no one recognises him?

Did I just get fooled into replying to a joke post?

Dammit.

You'd be talking about millions and millions of frames. Not even AMDs could pull that off.

That's what fan edits are for ! As for AMDS, only he can answer. I bet he can put up a 12mn trailer with the helmet on thought

I don't know the original Judge Dredd comics, but what's the problem with the helmet? I don't understand why Stallone can't take it off in the movie. Somebody please explain.

Same Make. Same Model. New Mission.

Judge Dredd never removes his helmet...ever. When they did it in the movie, they ruined one of the major points of the comic.

Yes, it's a bit like making a Superman movie, without the costume, and with a superman who cannot fly and have no powers (but is vulnerable to kryptonite). If you see what I mean ! The whole point of the character is that we don't and never, see his face

Uncanny Antman has a point. In the comics, Dredd may always wear his helmet, but how do you justify him keeping his helmet when he's going to prison? I don't logically see them letting him wear it in jail.

And a better storyline would help tremendously.

He is arrested in the comics, and wears the helmet.

How come ? There is a scene I think where they make him remove it. We see him from behind, and the guardians reactions are "ugh ! he is ugly ! put this back on !" So he get it back. It's totally illogic, but that is the whole point of Dredd. It's so funny seeing this man in prison, with the helmet still on !

Thanks for the info about the helmet in the comics. Now I understand. Was he a clone in the comics, like he was in the movie (as far as I remember)?

OK, I see. I haven't ever read the comics, so I didn't understand the signifigance of the helmet. Having the helmet in jail is kinda funny.
I'm sure that Stallone would of loved to had that guardians are calling him too ugly to not wear the helmet. lol

What about a simpler solution? Rather then trying to insert a helmet in every scene, perhaps for a lot of the shots you can obscure the face (digital shadow, etc).

The second question would of course be: Is all that work worth it?

On a side note, a Judge Dredd reboot is in the works. Still in the early stages but it could be great.

In the comics Dredd even wears his helmet in the shower.

If only we could go back and remake the film with Michael Biehn instead (he looked the part more and could do a Dirty Harry voice well, at least we would have been able to understand what he was saying).

Stamper was pretty much on the money.  Apart from everything else being wrong in the movie, having short arsed Sly play Dredd AND remove his helmet is kinda like finding out Halo Jones was a tranny.  Could be worse though, they could have had John Travolta or Danny Devito in the role :/

In my opinion, that whole movie was pretty much just another Hollywood travesty.

BTW, Dredd didn't have his helmet in 'The Dead Man' series.

If television is chewing gum for the mind, then the prequels are the worlds first visual laxative.
