Idea: Ultimate Extras Discs Challenge

Author

 (Edited)

This is a related thread to Project To Collect All Star Wars Documentaries, but I didn’t want to send that thread off topic.

What does everyone think the ultimate extras (supplemental materials) discs for the OT should be like?
I think there’s room for more than just the one official disc, and there’s obviously plenty of stuff out there.

Should they include the supplements from the DefCol and/or Faces sets?
Documentaries (if so, which ones)?
Trailers? Auditions? “Lost” scenes? Stills Galleries?

So, if I make an arbitrary rule and say three discs, one for each OT movie, what would you put on it?

(If anyone can figure out how to format this as a poll, please do)

I think all trailers that have been released for each film is an absolute must

Wow, the response to this thread has been underwhelming. I personally am a big fan of RowMan's 3-disc set (especially the new EditDroid version - or should that be RowDroid?)

- everything from http://www.starwarscutscenes.com/ and any other deleted scenes or alternate takes as possible
- as many of the old documentaries as possible
- all trailers
- all auditions
- any supplementary material from old sources
- pop culture references
- stills

Basically, as much as possible.

What is revenge of the brick? Lego?

Storyboard is a good idea - preliminary design sketches would be awesome, too, but that is a lot of work for someone to do.

Do we need ALL the trailers? Much of the original Star Wars trailers had only very minor variations (like the dates of the release and release, Oscar® nominations and winnings) and I'd rather not see all of them on a compilation disc. I'd prefer them to be on a seperate disc dedicated only to trailers.

I'll talk about what I would like in an official, fully restored, DVD9 discs edition.

I think the extras disc for each movie should contain its original making of (The Making Of Star Wars, SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back and Classic Creatures From Return Of The Jedi). I would also include the trailers and the deleted scenes from each film. Also the laserdisc extras for each film. Some picture galleries would be nice, too.

It would be necessary a 4th disc for "general" extras. It would include "From Star Wars To Jedi", some auditions, Return Of The Ewok, Star Tours (yeah, I think it's time to release this on DVD) and some other small stuff.

I guess my original question was meant to be about what's the best extra stuff, and that is the way that Jed has answered it - thanks. What you've described is pretty close to RowMan's 4 disc set, which is a great selection IMHO.

More than anything else, I suppose (for me at least) I think it takes the following to make a complete Star Wars OT set -

- all existing deleted scenes, cuts, alternates
- all auditions (I'd love to see Burt Reynolds reading for Han Solo)
- audio commentary
- all trailers
- all "making ofs"
- Holiday Special Bonus Disc (Episode IV.5)

What all is included on RowMan's set? I've only seen partial lists of everything.
