Idea: The Lion King - Deluxe Edition LD Box Set [14 hours left if you want to do this!]

Having seen it cheap on ebay at the moment (it’s got about 14 hours left), and remembering that the animation had been altered for the DVD release I was wondering if this LD is worth preserving?

The LDDB info is:
A wonderfully packaged box set loaded with special features: audio commentary, making-of documentary, storyboards, artwork, animation layouts, and much more. Included in the box is a portfolio of four concept art lithographs that are not as exciting as one might hope, but are nice to have nonetheless.

Sides #1-2 => CLV / Movie
Sides #3-6 => CAV / Supplements

Contains:

  • 6 postcards
  • 4 concept art lithographs
  • Trailer for “101 Dalmatians” (1996)
  • Trailer for “The Rescuers Down Under” (1990)
  • Music Clip of “Pocahontas” (1995)
  • Trailer for “Santa Claus” (1985)
  • Making of
  • Storyboards
  • Character Designs
  • Early concepts
  • Publicity
  • And more…

Apparently a lot of the extras didn’t make it to the DVD. I think if somebody has the money to spare to buy it, we should get it while it’s cheap, then worry about a transfer afterwardfs, what do you say?

The new DVD does have some altered animation. The one that I remember most was the crocodiles.

The DVD also doesn't have the "Making Of" documentary I believe it is also missing most of the other stuff from the LD.

That is the only bad part about the move to DVD. Companies have never taken the time to make sets like the Disney Boxsets. I have all the Disney Boxsets on Laserdisc including the Japanese Archive Collections. There is some great stuff not on DVD. I have a pioneer elite laserdisc player. What is the highest quality way to tranfer to DVD?

It just ocurred to me, and I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but... I'm asking about a DISNEY film. O.O

I do not want to be attacked by the Mouse, but I think we can worry about that once the LD set has been purchased. From what I've heard it would be worthwhile getting this set, especially at its current price. Anybody who agrees, and would like to purchase this LD set themselves and do a transfer, it can be found here (on eBay).
