Idea: 'The Dark Crystal' - Isolated Music Score - an edit?

Recently I bought The Dark Crystal Limited Edition OST on ebay. Disc 2 contains the complete film score. I thought it would be nice to make a DVD that contains the film with an isolated music score. Would anyone be interested in this? Or has this been done already?

It technically has been done already, though not in a fan capacity. The very first edition of the Dark Crystal on DVD actually had an isolated score track in excellent 5.1, which is why I sought it out after buying that box-y edition. The new 25th Anniversary Edition that they just announced doesn't have the isolated score track either, and I don't know why. It's rather irritating, as it's a beautiful score. Maybe a release of the movie with just this original isolated score track would be in order?

And that limited edition OST is a beaut, isn't it?

Hmmm, I didn't know there was an original version with an isloated score. Was it NTSC only? I have the PAL dvd from 1999 (and a PAL superbit version) but it doesn't have an isolated score. It does have trailers, deleted scenes and a featurette with interviews.

The OST is great indeed. You have it too?

Oh, right, I forgot you were in Reigon 2-land. Yeah, the first Reigon 1 edition had all the typical extras (workprint scenes, the hour-long dog, etc), plus the isolated score and a Dolby 2.0 dual-mono audio track, which I assume was the original audio mix. Check out this comparison of the various editions. The only advantage the box-y R1 version had over the one with the isolated score is the neat packaging with the reproduction of Henson's notepad for the film.

And yeah, I got the limited edition OST when it was first released, for a birthday present.

That IS a nice birthday present!

I had no idea there are that many different releases! That list doesn't include the PAL superbit version, makes me wonder if there are even more releases.
I was thinking of using the superbit PAL video, and use DGpulldown to convert it to 23.976 fps and pull it down to 25 fps. That way I won't have to re-encode the video, and it will stay at PAL resolution, but best of all I won't have to speed up the audio. I just have to convert the 44.1 khz wave files to 48 khz wave files and sync them to the video. Best video and audio quality

There is also a rare OST vinyl of The Dark Crystal.
Somebody could use that for the original score and sync to the movie as a secondary audio track.

What are the differences between the OST LP and the OST cd?

That OST you bought sourced the Disc 2 "film score" FROM that R1 DVD isolated score track -- it's why it raises/lowers in volume, just as the DVD track did.

Raises/lowers? Do you mean it has great dynamic range or is it not supposed to do that? Has the LP more equal volume?

Arnie the isolated score track fluctuates in volume depending on the action on-screen; if I'm not correct you can detect this in the 2nd CD of that set. Either way it certainly does not have the fidelity that the actual LP soundtrack (Disc 1) has.

Yeah phantomfriar beat me to it.
The cdd was sourced from the R1 isolated score and it does have a problem with fluctuating volume problem.
The vinyl recording of this doesn't.

The limited edition soundtrack set, though, is 2-disc. The first disc is the original soundtrack album as it was presented on vinyl, and the second disc is the complete score. So I don't see why there'd be a need for a vinyl rip at all.

Oh k, my bad I didn't know it was a 2 disc set. 1st disc would work then.
I would still love to pick up the record for it though. I'm a vinyl junkie.

Wow, that sounds very cool. I've got an old LD set of Frighteners I'd be willing to trade for that.

Isn't there a big special edition box set? Does that have the score track? (Or is that the one you guys are talking about already? )

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

We should really try to sell that...

The boxed edition doesn't have the score track, or the dual-mono 2.0 track. The original R1 edition is the only one with those two audio options. I'm not really sure why.
