Idea: Revenge of the Sith: Extended Edition — Page 4

why not just put the animatic in as it is, so we can see the original concept of the story for the film from the script. If you think it should'nt go in your cut, that is your decision. Just put in all the completed scenes using the script as a guideline. Although this seems problematic considering they have never released an ultimate edition soundtrack so revenge of the sith, what has been released is not all williams scored for the film. The same thing with attack of the clones. This dissapoints me because, I would have bought both ultimate editions for the second and third prequel films if they were released, I bought phantom menace ultimate edition. Just think if all the deleted scenes and music for all six films were released their could be extended cuts of a new hope, empire strikes back, and return of the jedi!, as well as phantom menace and attack of the clones.

The intention is to make an extended version of the film, like you see with LOTR or the Daredevil/Elektra films...not like deleted magic.

I like where you are going, but I wouldn't consider that an extended version.

You could just use the shots of Anakin and Obi-wan trying to get out before the fuel rose too high and exploded. You could cut around the battle droids all together.

speaking of deleted magic, I don't understand why no one has used the david reynolds articles, and the original shooting scripts, as well as footage from empire of dreams and elsewhere, like behind the magic cd rom footage, to try to recreate the lost cut. Deleted magic is a documentary not an extended edit of a new hope.

Yeah I know the effects are not finished on the deleted scenes, the treadwell scene is black and white but with the edited in mark hamill form the radio drama put in it, it could be used if someone did some animation like luke looking through his macro binocs, as the tantive 4 is attacked by vaders star destroyer. Maybe some one could even add color.

speaking of the animatic in episode III, the fuel tank room scene is in the videogame for episode three but that is animated, probalbly could not use that either.

There simply isn't enough of the footage around to re-create the lost cut. There are so many alternate takes and shots and whatnot that are not out there, not to mention the WW2 footage edited to the dogfights... It would just be a futile attempt.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

well then if you can't really recreate the lost cut you could put in the deleted scenes that have been released, like all the biggs scenes, the treadwell, and others, make a hybrid of the official release and the lost cut based on what sources are out there. If lucas ever releases the color dailies of the deleted scenes on a future dvd release, then we can recreate the lost cut in it's entire glory, the world war II footage has been released or can be tracked down to which sources they were pulled from. even the temp track music could be traced for certain scenes.

I personally would rather just add stuff to the legendary finished edit that was shown in theaters and we all know and love. No temp track, no world war II footage, no jabba, no dave prowse voice. But the extended scenes with mark hamill and biggs, as well as ben kenobi's hut should be in there. You know an extended fan edition edit.

If the footage Is ever released for empire and jedi I would love to see extended . If not then storyboards or pics could be comped in with a subtitle for the spoken lines.

I did that a few years ago, soon as the Behind the Magic CD-ROM came out. It wasn't too shabby, and it helped inspire my defunct website on the rough cut, which was enjoyed by a young film-maker named Garrett; but I'd want more on there than just the Biggs scenes, the Obi-wan's house scene and the original Jabba footage. Deleted Magic gets you closer to the rough cut than anything else has before. You could edit all of the material presented in Deleted Magic into a version closer to the rough cut, but I'd wait to see if Lucas released anything else in the next year.

Wasn't this thread about Revenge of the Sith?

Well, it's on a VHS right now. It's pretty poor stuff compared to what is out now. We (my friend Brad and I) just re-incorperated the Biggs scenes, the cantina rough cut, the Jabba footage from From Star Wars to Jedi, and the cut Chief Bast sequence from the Star Wars Holiday Special. I think we moved a few scenes around to match the revised 4th draft, like C-3PO's I think I'm melting scene to the Tantive IV. And we did some funky stuff on there as well. We re-dubbed the Chief Bast scene so his lines better fit the script and replaced the crappy music from the Special. And we added an introductory shot of TIE fighters flying (we used one from the opening of TROOPS). And, get this, we somehow thought it was a good idea to edit and synche up audio from the radio drama and stick it over the Luke/Treadwell scene which was released with only projector noise. Blasted thing took me hours to get it edited to match the video. Brad then put it into the video track and we stuck it in our film. We also sent a copy of this clip to T-Bone's Star Wars Universe, which he put up on line. Now I see my little clip up on all sorts of Bonus Discs. I feel like a proud pappy!

Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah. The tape is interesting as a rough guide as what the rough cut might have been a bit more like. And it has a few special edition shots in it as well. It is a bit of a mess, but it was way ahead of its time in 1998 or whenever we made the thing. I can make someone a copy of the tape if they want, but honestly Deleted Magic is a much better guide for producing 'rough cut' version. I do plan on re-visiting the project someday, I just have a few other (related) items to tackle first.

Well, add to the list reinserting the music during the 'try not to upset him Anakin' scene with Greivous. On the video game, they show the clip from the film with the music that is inspired by Return of the Jedi and the barge scene, however...as I remember it theatrically, the DVD is pure silence during this entire scene until Grievous cracks the window.

The Shaak Ti scene can be used, as long as it's considerably cut down. Have everything until the Jedi drop through the floor, have Greivous reaction and then continue the movie onward.

The Extened Cut is being muxed tonight. This doesn't remove anything from the original film, but does clip the "redundant because they were used elsewhere in the Final Cut" bits from the Shaak Ti and Plot scenes. I had three cut points total in the Shaak Ti scene. C-3PO's opening lines in the Bail scene are cut too as they just distract from the dialogue, but that's the only "creative" edit I'm putting in to the Extended Cut. Otherwise, it's the "whole enchilada."

Cross posted from another thread. Forgive my redundancy.

personally, I don't think the acting in the second seeds of rebellion scene is that good.. the first scene rocks though

Yes, that would be good in a fan edit, but not in an extended edition. This thread is about effectively re-inserting the deleted scenes without "tinkering" with plot points and character nuances. You oughta get into making a custom edit. It's quite fun, and it's the best way to tailor the movie exactly the way you want it. Best of all, you'll get tons of support from everybody here, so long as you don't claim it's the best version ever. R.I.P. Spider.

Excellent to hear ADM. Did you also reinsert the other things listed above, like Dooku's line and the Emperor's shuttle?

Also, the music over the Greivous bridge scene. I can try to capture that scene to show you what I am talking about...it's in the video game.

Sounds cool. If you can capture the scene, I'll be interested in seeing it and seeing what, if anything, I can do with it. I have no gaming capabilities myself.

I'd be interested too in the scene ...
and also in watching Dooku saying his cut line from the video game (if anyone could capture this for me, I'd be most grateful) .

I personally wouldn't mind doing my own fan-edit of ROTS for next year...but that's a long ways off. I'd like to have a chance to see the official DVD first...I've spent the past four days seeing it without setting it down!

Someone also needs to take some of the voiceovers from Battlefront 2... Theres loads of stuff with the Clones talknig over it.... Theres a great line when he says something about being called great warriors and not being able to look the jedi in the eyes cause they knew what they were going to have to do.... All this stuff would be much better in the film and would make the story of the clones a bit more sad rather than one minute they are friendly and the next minute they turn.... SOMEONE PLEASE DO THIS.... Please ADigitalMan!!
