Idea: Darkly Dawns the Duck - Original Broadcast Version - a preservation?

Hey everyone!!

Darkwing Duck was one of my favorite shows growing up, and still a guilty pleasure of mine nowadays. I just love how it pokes fun at superhero cliches. Unfortunately it seems the DVD set contains the syndication version of the pilot “movie” Darkly Dawns the Duck" which omits the following scenes:

  • An opening chase sequence showing Darkwing capturing a gang of fleeing criminals (oddly enough, the scene of Darkwing ramping the Ratcatcher up and into the bed of a pickup truck, catapulting the criminals inside into some trashcans, is featured prominently in the show’s opening sequence).

  • While following Tantalus on the Ratcatcher, Darkwing almost has a head-on collision with a large truck and is yelled at by the driver.
A longer version of the scene where Hoof and Mouth are twirling their rifles around before Darkwing jumps them.
A scene showing Taurus Bulba wheeling a cart of dirty clothes to the prison laundromat, establishing that Hammerhead, Hoof and Mouth are hiding inside it.

  • Following the car chase, Mouth has a panic attack and begins screaming, “We’re all gonna die! We’re all gonna die!” until Hammerhead hits him.

  • A longer scene of Taurus Bulba ranting about Darkwing’s ego, with him imitating Darkwing’s mannerisms and poses: “His posing, his flamboyance, the mask and cape! Ha, ha! That hat! It all indicates an ego the size of a small planet!”
While in his jail cell, the scene where Darkwing tries to get the biker pig to punch him is much longer.
A brief scene where Taurus Bulba comments that the design of the Thunderquack is ugly.

I believe the uncut version was released on VHS sometime in the 90s. Anyone consider a preservation?

I've got the tape ("Color/Approx. 48 Minutes") but no VCR to play it on.

I was just thinking about this today, I'd love to get a copy of this, I was thinking about getting the VHS off ebay but I have a few too many projects on at the moment, still I'll get around to it if no-one else does.

On a related note I recently found a download for the uncut Talespin pilot "Plunder & Lightning" it's split into 4 250MB XVIDs so the quality is quite good, if anyone is interested PM me for the link, one day I might try and clean it up a bit and stick it on DVD.

I have a slight update related to this post, I found a torrent on a Russian site that contained a VHS-rip of "Darkly Dawns the Duck", however the file has both English and Russian audio and I can't seem to figure out how to separate them.

If no one has already ripped the VHS then this might be a good starting point, if anyone's interested PM me and I can find a way to send the file your way!

I also found a copy of Plunder & Lighting uncut as one file, not divided into parts if anyone would like that as well!

Would anyone out there have the original broadcast versions of DuckTales: Treasure of the Golden Suns and/or Rescue Rangers to the Rescue?

I also have the VHS release of this episode, but it has Macrovision protection that prevents me from transferring it to DVD, and I don't have anything to bypass that. If anyone has any suggestions, I can probably transfer it from there.

I have a Panasonic AG-1980 S-VHS VCR, but I no longer have my Leitch DPS-290. I also have a Panasonic DMR-ES10 DVD recorder.

I can get a DPS-465 for ~$60, but I'm pretty short on cash right now.

Can we crowdsource the funds?

In return, I'll transfer any VHS ya'll want to DVD.

JEDIT: I forgot to mention that the DPS-465 can chew through Macrovision.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I've been intending to do this preservation for a while; I found this on laserdisk on Ebay Australia, and I had trouble getting it sent here. It was, unfortunately, lost in transit. :( I've been searching for someone else with this laserdisk. I have the other laserdisk that exists (The Justice Ducks one), but unfortunately this one never happened.

I have the VHS, though, and can do a capture of it still. I've almost given up hope finding the Laserdisk again.

I was able to find a torrent from a Russian site that has a rip of the VHS. The audio is both English and Russian, and there doesn't seem to be a way to separate the audio tracks

Does anyone have the original broadcast versions of 'DuckTales - Treasure of the Golden Suns' and 'Rescue Rangers - To the Rescue'

I believe the DuckTales pilot movie was released on a Japanese LD, but the Rescue Rangers one wasn't. I'd be interested in seeing the latter - the first two series' pilot movies were actually condensed from the 5-part versions (I believe the entirety of Cold Ducks was left out of the movie version of Treasure, for one example.)

(And I wonder, does anybody have original airings of the Rescue Rangers episodes that aren't on DVD? Some episodes were re-edited after the initial airings, and original versions have never surfaced to my knowledge.)

It'd be great to track down both the 'Movie' edit versions for 'historical compare and contrast' purposes.

Would anyone be interested in me uploading the 'Darkly Dawns the Duck VHS rip with dual audio?

Sure - I have the VHS but my VCR is screwed up or something.
