Hello there!
So, recently I have been thinking about one particular idea: could Dark Empire (I and maybe II) audio dramas work as a Canon bridge between Ep VI and sequel trilogy of edited wisely? By canon, I mean live action canon, no books/comics continuity taken into consideration.
For me, for some reasons, it actually could make sense.
It could work well in terms of Palpatine’s return. Now we’d have a clear explanation how his clone bodies/spirit transfer work. DE II ends with an open ending if I remember correctly so it 'd make sense that he s gonna return this one more time. Even the whole idea of Palpatine’s return not being such a surprise and the infamous “Somehow Palpatine returned” would make more sense. I mean, if the galaxy knows he has returned before, it makes more sense that they just all accept this news.
Also, DE part I introduces already a darker path for Luke, something that will be explored more in The Last Jedi. And some of Jedi powers shown in E8 and E9 appeared for the first time in DE as well.
About the editing the source material itself, what ‘d need to be cut would be all the mentions of Jacen and Jaina. No more Solo twins in the story.
And the Anakin Solo would need to be changed into Ben Solo. it’ d be even more ironic when they all say how great Jedi he ll become at the end of DE II.
So, not much to edit there tbh. Just trim some dialogues, maybe cut some little scenes and voilà.
Probably I’d cut the crawls as well, just not to mention Thrawn trilogy (it seems they ll be adapting some of it in the Mandalorian).
What do you people think? Would the idea make sense?
