Idea: 'Beauty and the Beast' - BD Color Timing Idea

Hey, all. I don’t commonly post here anymore, despite avidly checking up on people’s projects which are very fascinating, but I decided to raise a subject that I assume people have been talking about already a few years ago.

I decided to check out the Blu Ray for “Beauty and the Beast” that I got in 2010, and I noticed that the movie has been cleaned so well that it does a disservice to the cinematography and art direction by looking flat and revealing a lot of information on it.

Though I do admire the crispness of the picture, as far as I’ve known this movie, I remembered it having much more contrast and a more “filmic” look.

So, I took a look at the workprint version on the Blu Ray as well, and did indeed notice a fairly huge difference in grading and contrast. Therefore, maybe someday, it would be nice to try to get the picture looking more like it did originally, and with that said, here are some comparison pictures I did with a few re-graded mockups I photoshopped the other day.

oh wow! That's good! Not surprised about this, of course - but it's great that it is something that's already happening! Hope it finishes soon, then. :)

The laserdisc preservation is looking great so far, but I also like the idea of regrading the Blu-ray. Your attempt at regraining even looks pretty good (at least in still form)/
