anyone wanna take a stab at this? The only way to get the theatrical cut is to buy the pan-scan version.

is there a program now that edits with 5.1?

It pissed me off that they did the same thing with this that they did Anchorman. As far as I know, there isn't anything subtracted/altered from the theatrical cut in 40-Year-Old, but the line "I ate a big red candle" was substituted with something else in Anchorman and I sorely miss that line.

Anchorman was the best comedy 2 summers ago.

I loved, loved, loved it. I bought it on DVD the day it came out...and was so angry. The pacing is all thrown off by the inlcusion of new scenes, and some of the best jokes were gone....it sucks!

I would also like to see the TV and theatrical cuts of Old School - there's some missing footage on the Unrated DVD that's not included in the deleted scenes!

Does anyone know if there's a list of changes to Anchorman anywhere? Anchorman is actually one of my favorite movies of all time, but I never saw it until it came out on DVD. I'd love to make a box set of the theatrical cut, the normal dvd, the uncut dvd, and Wake Up Ron Burgundy (the hour and a half movie made from deleted scenes).

There's only two versions of the flick (thus far): the theatrical cut (only available in fullscreen on DVD) and the unrated version (available fullscreen and widescreen). There may have yet been more deleted scenes (even though there were deleted scenes on both the feature disc and Wake Up) on an extra Best Buy bonus disc that my friend has, which I'll be investigating in about a week when I borrow it from him.

Good point. Have you gone through both versions to find the differences? As in, is the new stuff just additions, or it is also alterations of things in the theatrical cut? I have a pretty good-quality telecine bootleg of the theatrical release in, I believe, the proper aspect ratio. It would need some color-correction to match, but it could be a usable source.

Er, yeah, sorry to jack the thread with this, but...

Many thanks for the link. I guess I never realized the non-uncut DVD wasn't available in WS. I guess I better get to work editing...

I haven't. I just got it yesterday...and goddamn, 17 minutes of additions is a lot. I thought the original movie was overly long as well.

Personally, I hate it when they pull stuff like that. They did it to King Arthur too. I still haven't seen that because I like to see theatrical cuts first. Entended versions do nothing for me when I don't know what's new. I like knowing what's change, and am of the mind that usually things are cut for a reason.

What did they add? I rented the DVD. I liked it, but I have a feeling some of the jokes I didn't care for were probably added.

I've found that many HDTV airings appear to be Theatrical cuts. Same should be true for the early runs on Cable/Sattelite, but those rarely get captured, it seems.

Anyhow, Anchorman has just expired from Newshosting, and my Giganews isn't unlimited. Unless it has some spectacular visuals, it probably wont make it to the repost group. So, if you don't newsgroup, or don't have Giganews, you could see if anyone could get it for you. Or, if you can give me the exact times of the scenes you need, I could try to get those. I hate, detest, and loath snail mail, so if you can get someone else...

I don't see 'Virgin posted up there. I don't recall if it has been. I'll keep my eyes open & give you a heads up if I see it.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

If you could possibly get the whole of Anchorman theatrical cut, I'd really love to get that. I'm sure we could work out a way of digital sending.

digitalfreak, have you been able to compile a list of differences in 40-Year-Old yet? And would you like me to send you the telecine I have of the theatrical version, or will you be renting the fullscreen theatrical version for reference?

{Expletive}!!! The HD version has the chocolate squirrel. No red candle.

I borrowed the dvd, timed out the hangover scene, and downloaded it. They match.

Sorry for raising false hopes. :-C I'll keep them both on my search list, see if anything unreleased turns up.

40yo Virgin? I love it, it's amazing. Although the unrated version is a little over the top, and it wrecks the pacing. 17 extra minutes. Good Gracious!

according to dvdcompare, a WS version of the theatrical R Rated version does exsist.

also, Anchorman is widley available in the UK in WS and it's the theatrcial version (which sucks for us!, no unrated version)
