This September: Original Unaltered Trilogy on DVD

Posted By Dustin on May 3, 2006

Starwars.com has confirmed the rumors from today!

Here's a snippet!

"In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone should pat themselves on the back, "In response to overwhelming demand." That means all the bitching and yelling we did has paid off, it is not about vision, it is about demand, and I guarantee every SW fan buys this, even the SE lovers, because you can't have SW without the original set. Lucas is a genius, and I will not talk ill of him anymore. Sebastian Shaw, welcome back to the SW DVD World!

Now its time to get a petition for the holiday special on dvd!

I think its so great that we all helped contribute to this. I suspected that the OOT would be available but never, never this soon. The detail on those models is going to look so sweet on dvd.

Even though he's doing this, I still think George Lucas needs to be kicked in the god damn testicles over the whole matter. Hard.

*Looks at calander. See's it not April 1st.*

*Celebrates wildly* I can't believe it! I guess riding asses does pay off after all! I think Jay deserves a huge pat on the back for starting this!

EDIT: I love this little bit... "see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work" (emphasis mine). We really got him where it hurts.

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

Holy fucking shit.

EDIT - took out picture of Hell freezing over because, well, it was big and scary. And homoerotic.

Well,uh... I'll be damned. I thought it would happen at some point, but not so soon. Huh. Well, I'm very curious what these DVDs will look and sound like, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Anyway, something still seems fishy. I mean guess I don't know how to feel. What's going on?

This is somewhat Shocking! So good old GL "Caved In". J/K I am glad he is releasing them like Stevens ET with both Versons. It would be nice if this set also had those OOT Deleted Stuff but I am not holding my breath on that.

I have to guess this cool site had a "LOT" to do with this New Release.

If this site is still here after 9/12/06. I will still post here because this is still one of my fav sites on the net.

I'm telling you right now - there better be some credit given to originaltrilogy.com because this site played a huge role in making this happen, through the petition and through the countless fan preservation projects.

So, if you will all join me for a second.

THANK YOU JAY. You did it. We did it. You beautiful bastards.

I agree 100%. IMHO ALL our screen names SHOULD be in the ending Creadets{sp?} of each film!! like they did with LOTR LongVerson.

Jay! Jay! Jay! Thanks Dude for making this site!

Hooray!!

Now, I really hope that this doesn't mean that this site will die out or get taken down. I'd hate to see that. I like this place and would like to see it continue on.

Behold the power of the fans!

(And the greed of George Lucas.)

Seriously, didn't you just know he'd cave at some point? There's profits to be had.

And I guess this means we will be waiting a bit longer for that 6 film box set?

(Btw, I'm down with a Holiday Special DVD petition. Bring it on!)

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!! This is great! however, not to sound pessimistic, but (as others have mentioned) what happens to X0project? I mean, what if, like the '04 dvds, these are horribly messed up technicaly? I hope they're not. In fact, i hope they go back and correct all the technical defficiencies in the super special editions just in case i ever decide to watch them (unlikely, but hey, they should've been good to go the first time around). I mean, I'm definately buying the official dvds of the OOT, but i'd like to still have a backup plan just in case lucasfilm fails us yet again....

Anyways, back to jumping up and down victoriously in my "Han Shot First" t-shirt!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!

Yeah, muthafucker, yeah!

Now lets just hope it's a good clean transfer, not some grainy VHS transfer shovelware.

Gottdang it's hard to believe.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

I say "put work on hold". We still dont know just what the quality of the video and audio is. If its a bit grainy or scratchy there may be another way of preservations which mesh the 2006 OOT with the 2004 SE to give us the best available transfer yet.
