I saw this poll at IGN and I couldn't help but find several of its results hilarious.

Most notably, the Ewok Film.

Though the fact that ROTS rates higher than ANH and ROTJ has me REALLY surprised. Please note that the poll is still on-going so its numbers are subject to change.

Good for ESB at least to still reign supreme, but only 8.5% for Star Wars? I can only hope that that's because everyone who voted for ESB held Star Wars as a very close second but couldn't vote for both. But ROTJ higher than Star Wars? That's just weird. I'm more surprised by that than I am by ROTS having second place, honestly, as much as I disagree with that standing.

I would suspect you're right man, I would've given ANH my next vote, but I had to go with ESB.

The rest is divvied up by those dumb-ass kids...

I concur with both of you. I also would have to go ESB over ANH, but only by a teeny tiny hair, barely indistinguishable. But ESB was directed superbly by Irvin Kershner, I'm serious, Lucas would have done well to let Mr. Kershner direct every subsequent Star Wars film thereafter, but I will digress as this is not relevant to the thread.

lol, Episode II so definitely deserves to be below the Ewok movie. Though, its very sad that the original Star Wars isn't above Episode III and RotJ.

ESB is obviously the best of the Star Wars, while RotJ is a close second for me and pulling up and extremely close third is Star Wars. RotS and Phantom Menace are about tied for fourth and....we don't talk about the other one...

I am really not surprised by ROTS being in second. I myself do not think it deserves to be there, but I hear a lot of people ( people who are not obsessed over star wars and just like the movies as popcorn flicks and nothing else) say that ESB is their favorite with ROTS being their second favorite. I do not know why, but ROTS when I first saw it was my third favorite behind ESB and ANH, but for some reason now I can't really decide whether I love it or hate it. There is just something about it that causes me love it sometimes and hate it other times. It isn't something a fanedit could cure it is just something that I can't stand about the movie.

I totally understand what you're saying, Marvolo. I too enjoyed RotS when I first saw it. However, once I began watching it a few more times, and I was able to better digest the fast-paced barrage of scenes and events, the movie began to really fall apart for me. I found very little that I wanted to like anymore. There really isn't anything to the movie, but its all assembled and portrayed as if there were (as far as I'm concerned).

Anyways, just to sound repetitive on a Star Wars forum one more time: Star Wars deserves to be #1 in my opinion because it started Star Wars and because I've watched it hundreds of times and it still hasn't really gotten old for me. It's one very good movie from those two perspectives. (Though I do not begrudge ESB being more popular.)

The prequels are wretched in their official cut. All these re-edits do improve them, but compared to the unaltered OT, they still lack considerably. I just did a marathon of my prequel edits, followed by the GOUT and the OT blows the prequels AND their SEs away so much it has ceased to be funny. After finishing ROTJ I went back and watched the updated FX for Sy Snootles, and even when set to Lapti Nek, the whole scene falls flat compared to the original.

Just like we need to take away drivers licenses from elderly people who create mayhem on the roads, so should we take away the ability for aging directors to screw up their perfectly good films. I picture George Lucas ending up like Uncle Junior before it's all over.
