Yep we’re assholes alright. We forced the longest period of peace and prosperity on Germany since the middle ages. We suck so bad.
Look I love many things about Germany, but your best days are in the rear-view mirror. Don’t start acting like the French and get all pissy about it. Emulate the Brits, they know how to pass a baton with dignity and class and are respected and adored by most Americans as a result.
Our diversity has made us strong for hundreds of years now. With each passing day our nation becomes more diverse and more united. Say it sucks while Hip-Hop plays in clubs along the Rhine. Say it’s foolish when Mexico Lindos is the most popular restaurant in Mainz. Say diversity will be our downfall as your nation tries to emulate it. The fucking Turks made Donner Kabobs one of the most popular foods in Germany. That’s where we were about a hundred years ago. I must step in here. While I can't speak for the rest of Europe, I can speak for England, and I have to ask you to not tar us with that brush. I have been all over America and with the exceptions of the major cities (especially NY and LA) nowhere compares to my home, London, for racial equalilty and acceptance. London is well known as being one of, if not THE, most ethnically diverse places in teh World. We have the largest Mosque outside of the Eastern World. I had a Mosque at the end of my street. My best friend growing up was black and I didn't even notice. My own Grandmother is an immigrant from Italy. I am just as angered by monkey comments like the ones you mention as you are, but let me tell you, the American Midwest (where I am currently staying) is FAR less tolerant of different races than England. I can't tell you how many time I've heard the 'N' word since I've been here. It's actually quite shocking. Even I am treated strangely, and I'm White (but not a good ol' USA boy and therefore 'different'). And on top of that, the status of the female in these parts is about 50 years behind what I am used to. And you can forget about being gay here too. Why would I look to Europe for lessons in diversity? Europe is FAR behind the US in racial relations. This is going to sound really stupid, but I've never really thought about it, despite the fact that I must have known it sub-consciously. You must have a strong British accent, don't you, YIYF? That was practically rhetorical, just so I don't sound completely ridiculous. In case you haven't noticed, text doesn't lend itself to dialects very well. But, yeah, that must sound pretty out of place in ND. I'd like to hear more about your experiences with the "natives." While we get a lot of Asians here, I can't seem to recall ever encountering a single person from the British Isles here.

It's kinda late so I'll share my ND experiences with you in detail another time, but suffice to say it's kinda frustrating being here sometimes. Some people are nice though and like to hear me talk, so they're not all bad. But noone is really seems to know anything about my country or it's people, and considering it's one of the most powerful and influencial nations, and also USA's main partner in the Iraq war, I find that surprising. I may as well come from Timbuctoo for all they know.
I think I will write a big essay about my experiences as an Englishman in ND.

Hope I didn't sound too stupid in my last post. Of course I knew you had to have a British dialect. All I hear around here is that annoying Southern American dialect. Hope I'm not offending anybody, but I've lived here most of my life, so I think I'm allowed to say it. I hate the southern dialect. There are some variations that sound relatively charming, but others are just downright grating to my ears.
Interesting (at least I think so) story. My girlfriend was born in the "delta" and had a very thick accent as a little girl. When she showed me home movies of herself, I couldn't stop laughing because she sounds so different. When she got to be a certain age, she actually taught herself not to speak that way and to adopt a more "standard American". She helped tweak her dialect by, amazingly, emulating The Beatles.
