If any of this is valid, it's probably best you give them a call.  You know them.  Posting on the web for random people to call someone you used to know, it's just bad news.  It'll look like harassment.  I'd recommend editing your posts.  You mentioned that one of these individuals was like an older brother figure to you, sounds like you want to contact them again.

that's the point I don't feel like contacting them as I  don't know him anymore

though I still know his sister whom works at the health club that my parents

belong to.

and the grand parrents with the film cans live in california.

And what makes you think any of us would feel more comfortable contacting them?  We've never known them.  You have.

The sandstorm sequence never was "lost".  It like all the other deleted scenes are rotting like the negatives of the original star wars trilogy in the Lucasfilm archive.  Even with the cold storage vault method, a lot of these scenes need repair and cleaning color correcting to allow them on a dvd release.

The proof the scene was never lost the half a second clip in the revenge of the jedi teaser.

Also evidence exists in the making of return of the jedi from ballantine.  The shot the scene and nothing was wrong with it, they excised it for pacing reasons. According to the producer howard kazanjian.

If it really was dumpstered someone should be fired at Lucasfilm.

Where was the scene shot, it had fake sand.  I would guess Elstree.

Other than the lightsbaber props and few pieces of the wardrobe of costumes Lucas pretty much held onto everything used in the making of the films except constructed sets.  He held onto every last stich of celluloid and every dialogue, and sound effects reel.  I know of only one item going missing and then being sold on auction by elstree an ADR recording session supervised by Lucas.  I think Featuring Mark Hamill and Anthony daniels doing additional dialogue replacement.

The original globe model that was the estalblishing shot of the death star as the falcon was drawn in by tractor beam did make its way out of the lucas peoples hands.  It was recovered from a dumpster.  Exchanged hands twice by collectors and thirdly bought by i think sansweet and is back in the lucas archives once again.

You know the story of the deleted scenes not being on the dvd for the movies we like the original star wars trilogy, original indiana jones trilogy.  Still sitting in the Lucasfilm archives.  Also Deleted scenes from willow, and thx 1138.  Instead we got the deleted scenes of the garbage prequels on dvd.  And the closest thing we got period for the originals was the CD-ROM and only because the showing of the reels at a convention by sansweet and included at his urging.  Done in a time of early digitizing of movies was not exactly up to speed so to speak.

additional dialogue replacement.

To correct a common misconception, ADR actually stands for "automated dialogue replacement," not "additional."

I know it by both terms.  But automated is correct.  Still my comment stands on what i was talking about, i was not be anal rententive on terms from the dictionary of making films if such a thing exists.

Still there is nothing automatic about it.  You have something sitting in a booth recording their lines just like you would for voiceover.

Back then in the days of analog recording you did not have a computer workstation and the ability to drop in dilaogue in a section of the film with the click of a mouse using a waveform editor.

Lucasfilm's own automated system original at sprocket systems was called soundroid, Spocket eventually became skywalker sound.   And additinally other aspects of sprocket systems became the THX program.

Not entirely true - the section that is to be replaced is automatically looped and played three times with a BEEP before each time, then a fourth BEEP and the actor tries to duplicate exactly what he/she just heard, and it's automatically spliced into the audio track over the video so that whoever is overseeing the process can tell whether it's a good or bad take.  So there are automatic aspects to it.

This is an odd thread. Now IF they actually have anything, and IF it is footage from the sandstorm, it is most likely from the first Revenge of the Jedi trailer, which had a 1 second snippet of that footage.

Er... what's "the lost sand storm sequence"?

The deleted scene from ROTJ that takes place between the destruction of the sail barge and the Falcon and Luke's X-Wing taking off from Tatooine.  Basically, they go to the Falcon in the middle of a sandstorm, and the scene is largely redundant because the majority of the dialogue is said again over the radio as they leave Tatooine.

Why have I not seen the trailer that had the second of sandstorm footage in the first place? Was it not on any dvd or laserdisc?

same thing with this trailer. The quality looks pretty good but I don't recall seeing this on any fan preservation dvd either.

The Bonus disc that came with the 2004 DVD's had three or four trailers for each movie in the OT.  The Editdroid Bonus Disc set was designed to compliment the official bonus release by containing almost all of the existing trailers that the official set didn't include.  So between the two sets, you have a pretty good collection.

Actually, Michael Jackson left a VHS version of the Lost Cut at my house on accident when he came in to use the bathroom.

Wel... he didn't. But his SISTER did.

Some people have taken that as a hint that the sandstorm scene may show up as an extra in some future release of the OT.  Why else would Lucas allow them to make the figures, if not to be as some kind of back-handed promotion of something?  Generosity isn't one of his strong points, as we know.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Star Wars Insider #35 has a detailed article about the sandstorm cut scene and about a dozen photos - though they may all be just on-set production stills.
