I made a video about "My Gripes with Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

Though I did catch the part about Rey and think the criticism that the clanking metal was too loud to be a bit petty, I mean, that’s what metal parts do when they’re thrown on top of each other. And she had slid several stories down a rope. That will make noise too.

I’ll give it a shot on the basis that you seem to want to talk about other problems with the film that aren’t discussed much or at all. I certainly need to hear some new criticisms because “rehash/remake/reboot” has gotten staler than 3 week old dog shit.

EDIT

1:36 minutes in and I think this is not the criticism video I was looking for lol

Did it never cross your mind to think that maybe Rey built the speeder or that she got it as a gift or in a game of chance?

Also the film never tries to suggest that Rey is emaciated? She’s slim, yes but the point of her introduction is that food is hard to come by; not that she’s starving to death…I’ll give this 5 more minutes.

EDIT:

Rey getting BB-8 to the Resistance Base is a short term objective. Easily doable within days if not sooner. Her working with Han as a First Mate would be a prolonged endeavor…there is no problem with her motivation in that regard.

Alright, I guess I’ll watch this.

EDIT: Maybe later, 32 minutes is too long for me right now.

I skipped to the part about the pacing issues, and I agree with what you said about that 100%. I really hope Episode 8 goes back to the pacing style of the original movies rather than the breakneck speed of a lot of today’s action films.

If anything VIII should be paced similar to ESB.

Agreed. The rehash argument is so old. There is some validity but for the most part I was fine with the elements it borrowed except Starkiller base. Everyone has made up their mind on how much the similarities bother them and I personally think for the most part I welcomed the similarities. They needed to rekindle a new beginning for both the new characters and the audience. Episode 8 and 9 I believe don’t have this burden and further plot similarities would not be as welcome.

But other gripes with the film are now of more interest for me to hear out.

I only watched part of it (so far). You raise some interesting points but make all the wrong conclusions and omit parts of the film that contradict your arguments (By accident or by design). e.g.

You say Rey “suddenly” wishes to get to the resistance for no reason but tell me what happens between Rey refusing to sell BB-8 and the Tie attack on the outpost? (Because you don’t mention that part).

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

Also you say that every element of the film from the sound, editing, camera work, props etc all contradict the one fact that Rey is starving and weak (In your opinion)… or perhaps she isn’t starving and is in fact a strong and forceful character, in spite of her tough surroundings and so every element of the film is actually consistent with that… which it is. Your video really highlights how good JJ is as a Director and story teller in TFA. Just the camera placements you highlight convey her character without words.

Yeah I can’t even tell you how many “TFA is a rehash and Rey is a Mary Sue” comments I’ve read since the film came out…

They needed to rekindle a new beginning for both the new characters and the audience. Episode 8 and 9 I believe don’t have this burden and further plot similarities would not be as welcome.

Exactly. Most people are mad that they catered to new fans as well as old. As if ushering in new Star Wars fans is a bad thing. It’s a bunch of entitlement is what that is.

But other gripes with the film are now of more interest for me to hear out.

It’s at least worth a listen just to hear something different. You might come away agreeing with some of his posts.

I am sorry to disappoint you two but such things do not have an expiry date. To be honest, this is the worst thing I have heard in a while around here. Even PT defenders did not use something like that. It is like saying: “argument that PT has bad dialogue has gotten old”. No, it never gets old. If it is crap it is crap forever and an argument that points it out is always appropriate.

OK, well, nobody wants to hear that argument for the millionth time. “the evil black guy wants the droid and in dis film the evil black guy wants the droid REHASH COPY HUR DUR” Enough aspies with internet connections have already made this point too many times

People often go on about how the dialogue is shitty whereas a lot of people shouting “rehash” do it and that’s it. Very uninspired if you ask me. Also TFA supposedly being a rehash is a bigger problem than bad dialogue so it would have been better for you to use poor story/execution in the PT as an example. And even in that case people pick apart the plot and spell out why they think it’s shite.

Stay out of these threads then if you don’t like to see it. Simple as that. They are meant to point these things out. There are plenty of other threads and topics.

Well essentially it is a boring rehash and that’s it.

Fuck off. Nobody wants to hear your stupid recycled argument. Go make a YouTube video with your unkempt messy face and emotionless monotone voice and tell those other nit picky retards the same argument they like
to hear because they have a hard time understanding other peoples viewpoints.
I’m pretty sure people are hear to see UNIQUE viewpoints and not REHASH

It’s more than just a rehash or a shot for shot remake (as some people have alluded to it being) but that’s not even the fucking point. People who think it’s a rehash should at least dress up their complaints more if they’re going to say literally the same thing over and over again. Makes people who mostly sound alike seem even more similar.

I’m curious. I oversaw your statement on the voice acting being bad. This is the first time I’ve actually seen someone make such criticism so I am wondering. What parts of the film do you think feature poor
dialogue? Or do you think the whole film had bad voice acting?

You want me to dig up bad lines from the PT? Just pick at random lol

Hell no. Outside of ESB, TFA has the best dialogue in the series. And in terms of acting TFA even outclasses ESB in that regard though I hold the contention that Mark performance is slightly better than Daisy’s. Though that may change with the Sequels.

The only line in the film that I cringed at was Reys “I didn’t know there was this much green in the whole galaxy” bleh
