I hate this day

6 years ago on this day, 3/24/00, my cousin passed away after giving birth to twin girls. Her death almost shattered my family, and I think we all went insane for a few days. There were HUNDREDS of people at the services, and I thought I'd never go through a time like that again.

This morning another cousin was killed in a car accident. 21 years old. My family is once again destroyed, and nobody knows what to do. I apologize for putting this bad news here, but I just am in shock right now, I think.

I'm really sorry, man.

I am very sorry about your loss. Losing someone breaks a family apart due to all the suffering, but love is stronger than pain, and things eventually get healed. I wish you my condolences, I certanly understand this as I've lived something similar. I am very sorry.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

You have my condolences. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel.

Thank you all. I feel so bad for my aunt, his mother. She is totally alone now at home, meaning her other son has moved on and gotten married and she's divorced. She's in her mid-50's, and this is completely destroying her. My mother is also very, very bad right now, but she's taking control of the situation and getting everyone and everything oranized, so it's keeping her busy.

Thank you all again.

I think this could be considered the equivalent of an online group hug, Sage.

I too am sorry for your loss, and wish you the best of luck in the days ahead.

I'm sorry to hear that Sage. I had been thinking to myself about all the the problems I had and how they were depressing me. My problems seem small now, compared to yours. It makes me realize what a brat I was being. You have my thoughts and prayers.

I've been away for a few days. Not that it means much Sage, but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. My condolences. The fact that it happened on the same day is just cruel.

Thanks, YIYF. It's been a very long weekend, and the services are tonight and tomorrow so the worst is yet to come. I saw the crash site last night and it was pretty much the most awful thing I've seen in my life, except maybe the Vietnam Memorial.

Sage, I lost a cousin in a car wreck a couple of months back. He was out one night and he had no way home and this guy said he would give him a ride. The guy who said he would give him a ride had got into a fight with his girlfriend and decided he was going to pay her a visit. On his way to see his girlfriend he began to drive faster and faster because he was mad and he lost control of the vehicle. My cousin died and the driver survived. While they were doing a background check on the driver they found out he was an illegal immigrant. He has now been charged and is doing time as far as I know. This little bit of justice brought some peace to our family. I hope your family can find the same kind of peace in this situation and I will be praying for your family.

Thank you, Marvolo. While the police report is still many weeks away, its obvious to many people who went to the site that they swerved to avoid something (it happened around 1:30 am), most likely a deer as the area is lousy with them. They slid for at least 75 feet before hitting the tree on the opposite side of the road.

I too am sorry for the losses Jedisage.

I had kinda a scary week last week (which I'll post about elsewhere) but the result was a good one. Just the thought of where things could have gone kinda rattled me to the bone. No one can ever know how one will take events nor know exactly how experiences like yours will affect them in the long run but as others have said if there's *anything* we can do to help just let us know.

We geeks have to stick together in good times and in bad.

Last week my co-worker quit. Now that was agood day. Unfortunately this week he is already gone and no one else but me is left to blame. Sometimes I wish it was groundhog day for me.

I, too, am sorry for your loss. Almost inconceivable that the same date could yield such tragic circumstances twice. And I find it even more eerie because my cousin's birthday is March 24th. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Yes. At some point in the future I'd be interested in knowing the odds, although not now. In actuallity it turns out to be only around 1 hour apart.

Thanks for the kind words. The funeral was today, and I'd say there were rougly 600 people there, with about 500 at the wake last night. This has once again shaken us to the core, and I'm not sure my family recovers from this one. It's odd. My wife pointed out today that the death of my other cousin 6 years ago brought the family closer together, while this one has great potential to let it fall apart, as my aunt is the "glue" at the center of many relationships and it's a cause for great concern.
