"I am wondering.....why are you here?" — Page 3

I'm here because its great to be with other people who feel as betrayed as I do by Lucas (I wonder if Luke felt the say way about Ben after what he was told?)

I never knew this site existed until someone mentioned it to me on Twitter after I was ranting about the Prequels. I remember dipping into TFN a few times but being dismayed about how fanatical people were about the prequels (did we watch the same movies?!)

Watching an episode of Spaced a few years back and seeing Simon Pegg's character burn his Star Wars collection as he was so disgusted with the prequel movies  I knew that at least it wasn't just me who though the new movies were a big pile of pants. (Would never dream of burning my toy collection though!)

I think the difference on here to other SW fan websites is that on here are Star Wars fans on other sites there are Star Wars fanatics (blindly and un-critically gobbling up any lucasfilm shite with a spoon) This website is absolutely fascinating, I love that people have put vast amounts of effort in to tracking all the changes to the OT edits and spend ages discussing various minutiae. The fan edits are great fun to watch too.

I'll quite happily share  a few drinks with all of you at nearest cantina (I won't shoot you from under the table).

(The only thing I do struggle with a bit are the various abbreviations that people use to described the edits etc...)

I joined this community mainly because of Adywan's Star Wars: Revisited. I didn't mind GL attempt to make a special edition, but I wasn't happy with some of the results (I was even more unhappy with the 2004 DVDs). Adywan fixed those problems, and his work was interesting enough for me to register here. After some of the hype I had about his edit was over, I decided to lurk the rest of the forum, and realized it's main purpose. And although I've always thought that the OOT should be released in proper quality, I never made a case about it. Until now. And I have to thank this forum for making me care about the effort of bringing the OOT to the public. Most of the community is also great, as it makes me stick around more often than not.

P.S: Unlike many others here, I don't have a problem with the prequels. I like them (sue me). I never shared the thought that this place is also meant to rant about them, but unfortunately I can't make people think the same way as I do.

Peace.

I found this place one day when I was looking for some homemade version of the ESB score that had the Main Title edited with the film version of the Imperial Probe Droid. I tried to do it myself but I really suck at editing. Anyway I think I found it on tehparadox and that somehow got me here.

I've never really cared about about fan edits but I was very happy to find stuff like Adywan's wonderful ESB 97 SE AVCHD with Boba's original voice, his superb theatrical reconstruction and now also Harmy's work. So I started checking this site often and eventually started to post. I don't really post much here or elsewhere though (the only other place where I post is a Beatles forum). But this is quite a nice forum, especially compared to the horror of other SW sites.

I'm not quite sure how serious you're being here, but I hope you do realize that the Star Wars stuff in Spaced was basically a big, giant SPOOF of over-the-top prequel hate and general geek obsession?

Not saying Pegg is, in reality, a fan of those movies, cause he ain't - but his character in Spaced yells at children for coming into his store and buying Jar Jar Binks toys!

Not sure why you shouldn't want to burn your toys, though - not an expert on that by any means, but from what little I've gained about the Star Wars action figures and plastic toys, the majority of them kinda sucks ;)

I think I've heard about this site a couple times before, but the way I really came to these forums and ended up joining them, was by googling for articles and discussions about RedLetterMedia's reviews, and thereby finding the corresponding thread here.

I read through it, a couple posts there instilled into me an ardent desire to post a.. couple rebukes to those posts, and before I knew what was happening, I had an account here and was writing on an angry rebuttal to a 9 months old post!

From there on, I just kinda posted wherever I found interesting... and that's basically it.

Having seen a bit of TFN, I can't say I got the impression of a one-sided fanboy fest, as there are quite a few "bashers" and "critics" and generally people capable of posting coherent thoughts, but yea, I agree, the comment standard here is pretty high.

Cool place!

Also, I heard there was a doobie gettin' passed around and I'm waitin' my turn. That's what's keepin' me here.

Now I have a new reason to stick around. ;-)

Nobody told me there were doobies!  Have I been missing out on the OT.Com smoke circle this entire time?!

Speaking of doobies,

I take that as a compliment :)  No one's ever told me I looked like Rick Wright before.  Must be the hair.

It was meant as one.  Man, if I had looked even half as cool when I was young, I wouldn't have been a virgin until I was 26.

I personally enjoy conversations and debates with like minded individuals. Even those who have  a different point of view.

Like many people my age who  grew up in the 80s and  invested their emotions and time and bday gifts and xmas gifts into star wars  and waited loyaly and patiently for lucas to give us the prequel films he had talked about all those years I  felt  cheated and insulted. It is as if I am still waiting for a xmas present that I was promised and  I know deep down I will never get that gift. I was given a wraped present  with nothing inside of it. A present I did not pay for with money  but with   emotion and time.

it  adds  insult to injury how lucas just dismisses all the wrong doings and the lies  he has told  and   hearing people defend it. People have a right to like the PT films but to deny  lucas hads lied   and done wrong is just a flat out denial of the truth and not based in reality.

Maybe  those of us here  and even those of us who  do not get along  all share one unique bond together...something was taken from us. Something we  never had  but something we were promised and something we payed for dearly throughout our childhood  and throughout our young adult years. I can't speak for anyone else  but for me it is an emptiness that  will not go away and that is why my bitterness  will not go away.

Right and wrong depend from the point of view of each person, but not lies. What has he lied about regarding the prequels?

Think he's just stretching the use of "lied" a little.  Broke a promise rather than lied.

Or maybe not?

By lies  I refer to him saying he never  said he was making anymore than 6 films  when in time magazine in 1980 I believe it was he said he was making 9  films. Then in an earlier interview at USC  I believe he said he was making 12.  Now he says He never claimed to make anymore than 6.

He claims he always  intended for  greedo to shoot first. When gary lurtz  says that is a lie and that it was shot  the way it was originally  because  that is how the script  was written and that if lucas wanted to shoot it with greedo shooting first he could have very easily done so even back in 77. When asked why lucas would lie abput that kurtz said he had no idea.

What hasent this pos lied about?

As far as what we were promised  but never got. Lucas always  said anakin was a fall from grace story about a great hero/jedi knight who reeches gret heights  and then falls from grace and is seducded by the dark side.  I can't speak for anyone else but  I hardly  see a hero/great jedi when I look at the anakin of the pt films. there is no reaching great heights there for there is no fall from grace. this punk is a disrespectful azzz hole from the moment you lay eyes on him in episode 2. there is nothing tragic about his seduction.  30 mins into getting to know his character you are saying to yourself "this guys an azz hole" if you did not know the backstory of him turning to vader you would expect this prick to turn evil just based on his attitude and his actions.  some great jedi  and some great hero we were given.

From what I recall, he said he wasn't going to make more than six. Not that he never said otherwise before.

Again, I never read that he "always intended" for that to happen. I can be wrong though.
