I am getting tired of the ridiculous speculation that these will not be released on video.

(A)  When the THX Trilogy was sold, it was billed as you last chance to
"Own the Original" Star Wars...leaving them open to sell the Special
Edition.

(B)  I can not think of one majorly successful film that has been
precluded from a video release...why would SWSE be an exception.

(C)  Fox and Lucas have never failed to make money where they can
thorugh the Star Wars product(which is fine by me)...it is is ludicrous
that they woudl pass up an opportunity like this.

Those of you sayong "But reports say it won't be available on
video"...think about it!  With SWSE release tomorrow...do they want to
let everyone wait and get it on video...or to keep the seats in the
theatres full...think about it.

No more posts saying it will not be available..they are groundless
speculations based on intentional misinformation from Fox and insane
predictions.  Get real.

We've come a long way folks, a long, long way...  *sniff*

The above thread ends with:

I've got those plus pan and scan on Beta and LaserDisc.

I expect to add the Special Editions on both LaserDisc and DVD once they come
out.

I'm wondering if the Definitive Collection will be the higest quality video
release of the originals for the rest of history. Will we see the originals on
DVD and future formats?

Haven't you heard...

Lucas changed his mind about the SE's that were just shown in theaters.
They will be re-mastered again, but this time they will digitally add
back in bad matte lines, scratches and reel change indicators. As an
added touch they will remove approx 1.3 seconds of footage and include
a splice "pop" in the soundtrack. This is to ensure that home viewers
will be able to enjoy the films as they were originally presented in
theaters back in 1977.

After the SE's make the home video circuit and are put on absolute
perpetual moratorium, the Absolute Definitive Restored Special Editions
will apprear in selected theaters across the country. Then they will be
released in a special home video version packaged in an replica of
C3PO's head. It will be accompanyied by a genuine certificate of
authenticity to guarantee it's status as a limited (they will only
produce ten billion of them) collectable with investment possibilities.

Whew...

I would like to see a trade-in program where one can exchange the SW discs
he bought last year for the ones that are coming.  Wouldn't that be great?
(I know, I know, don't hold your breath!)   :-)

Why hasn't this happened yet...

Count Dookula warns :

The truth. What if I told you that the Republic was now under the control of the dark lord of the *sniff*?

The dark side of the Force has clouded their vision, my friend. Hundreds of senators are now under the influence of a *sniff* lord called Darth Ghent.

The viceroy of the Trade Federation was once in league with this Darth Ghent. But he was betrayed ten years ago by the dark lord. He came to me for help. He told me everything. You must join me, Georgie Porgie. And together we will destroy the *sniff*.

Yay for RASSM!

Those were the days.

EDIT: Thanks for finding this wayback machine, none.  I used to read RASSM for hours a day back in this time period and it's really bringing some memories back.  And to everyone else, I offer apologies for filling the forum with content from 14 years ago.

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

I remember the whole "SE will be in theatres only." I believed it back then too, which was one reason why I saw the first film like 6 or 7 times that January. But it doesn't make sense if I had actually thought about it, but I was like 12 years old anyway.

But even then, you are old...

But who's surprised at how old zombie84 is?  I mean, he's zombie84...

And he's still published before the rest of us...  :(
