I Wonder Why...

Lucas can release old trailers of the films, but not transfer a theatical print to high definition, as well.

Because it costs too much.  Lucas is basically living paycheck to paycheck.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

That was the excuse for not doing a complete restoration overhaul, which I accept at not being in the cards. I just want to see Lucas dig up prints of the films, which aren't faded and have minimal amounts of scratches and transfer them to high definition and BOOM, best of both worlds. Take some lessons from the Star Trek Blu-rays, which managed to include the original effects and a high definition print of the original version of Where No Man Has Gone Before, obtained from outside the studio.

The excuse that it'll cost too much to restore the theatrical versions is complete BS - experts estimate that it'd cost $100k per film TOPS. They have prints, they have IP's they have negatives, they have the 1997 SE's as archival negatives - all they need to do is scan those, chop out anything with SE content in it and drop in theatrical bits, which being isolated short sections of footage, they can get from whatever source is best on a case by case basis. Throw in some color-correction and paint out some dirt and damage and boom, done.

I'm thinking they should give some of the talented members here $100,000 and access to the Skywalker Ranch, and see what happens.
