But I don't know what edition to get. The 1997 (out of print) or 2004 versions. I know they are the same content wise, but should I shell out the extra cash for the remastered ssound on the 2004 versions? I've been dying to buy these for so long; I mean the trilogy wouldn't have been half as good without the music. For me, that was half the movie, and it's the best score for a film ever done.

If you can find it I recommend the 1993 anthology box set which contains all 3 soundtracks plus a 4th 'unreleased material' disc. I have the set and I will never need any other version. And the ROTJ disc has the original yub nub on it, which is nice.

EDIT: I done a quick search and Amazon has some used sets in stock. The factory sealed ones are pretty expensive but you can get a used one at a reasonable price.

War does not make one great.

Get the 1997 edition for the superior liner notes. Check filmtracks.com or jwfan.net for more informed opinions than mine. (Filmtracks says the 2004 version is both a repressing and a remastering of the 1997 version, but either way, it says casual listeners won't notice a difference.)

I agree that the 1993 set would be the way to go to get all of the original content, but if your dilemma is between which SE version to get, the 1997 set is the way to go. Like mentioned before, the liner notes are actually awesome, and in my opinion, the all around packaging is superior. The holographic CD's are quite cool. I have heard both the 2004 and the 1997 version, and I personally don't think there is much difference sound wise. Hope this helps!

Yes, all this helps guys. Thanks. I think I'm going to go with the 1997 RCA editions for the liner notes and the fact that it is the complete score in chronological order.

Yeah, I have the '97 SW and ESB soundtracks, and I am very, very pleased with the presentation and content. It's great. I wish I'd gone ahead and bought the ROTJ while I still had a chance, though.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I have the RCA CD sets from 1997 and I listen to the SW and ESB sets quite a lot.

However the ROTJ set....well, I've made my own CD dubs of all the non-SE tracks from that set, and included all of missing ROTJ tracks from the '93 boxed set.

I love to death the booklet that comes with the '93 Anthology I got for Christmas one year. I got it in maybe 1996 when I was 11 and it really go me interested in orchestral music and how it was constructed and looked at by a professsional.
