Hey, I’m new to the fan edit game and I was wondering how y’all make your edits? How do you get the clips and what software do you use?
(Edit) I understand that I need to legally own the source material. I need to know how to get the clips on my computer in order to edit them.
You must own the source material if you are going to do a fanedit. But this particular rule is lax for series only available on streaming services that won’t ever or aren’t planned on getting physical releases. Instead you must be paying for said streaming service to do an edit of these types of series.
As for software, a lot of people tend to use Adobe Premiere Pro or Vegas. DaVinci Resolve is also a good option if you are looking for free editing software.
If you have a Mac, the free built-in iMovie is no slouch, but most Mac editors seem to use Final Cut Pro.
Again, all of that is for the editing itself. You do have to figure out a way to get your content into a useable file format.
First, buy the commercially available version.
Then download any other fan edit or scanning project
Then decide on the software. There are several. I use Sony Vegas.
Then it is a matter of practice.
