How to print DVD covers

I've been wanting to add custom DVD covers to replace covers I already have or just to have new ones. I can print them out OK but they're always too big or too small and I have to cut them, usually cutting out the artwork, which I'd obviousl rather not do. Is there a way to set the layout which I'm printing to a custom way or something? Because the only option's that come close are 8.5x11, too big, or 8x10, too small. Is there some kind of program I can download for this? BTW I'm using Windows Vista if it matters.

Thanks in advance.

Windows Paint.  Load up your cover.

File>Page Setup

Legal size paper, Landscape, Horizontally & Vertically centered, set all your printer margins to 0 - the program will re-set them to your printer's minimum default.

OK

Put Legal  size paper in your printer

File>Print.

If I put regular 8.5x11 size paper in the printer, print it as Legal size, Landscape, Horizontally and Vertically centered, and all my margins set to 0, would it just print and I just have to cut out the white parts of the paper that weren't printed on?

Yes, but you still need to get a pack of legal size paper.  Shouldn't run you more than $5 or so at Staples or your office supply store of choice.

The problem is that a standard DVD cover is just a hair too big to fit on 8.5 x 11 allowing for the printer's default margins...well, my printer anyway, HP 7150.  If your printer can do "full bleed" printing, then maybe you can squeeze a cover onto standard paper.  If you get into wider covers though for multiple disc cases, you'll definitely need legal paper then.

Either way, the point is that you have something already in Windows to print the cover.  You don't need to hunt down a special application, just learn how to use what you already have.

And yes, once it's printed, just trim off the excess.  Metal straight edge and an X-Acto.

Oh, one other thing - depending on how the cover was created, it might want to print out bigger or smaller than it should be in spite of all the paper/margin settings.  That being the case, you may have to re-size it to get it to work properly.  Ideal size for single disc case covers is 3240 wide x 2175 high @ 300 dpi.
